Title: The Color of Money
Post by: Adam0199 on March 06, 2003, 06:18:45 PM
Saw The Color of Money for the first time. Great camera work, I fucking loved it, including Cruise. Notice Bed jumping scene similarities to Boogie Nights or am I implying too much.

What are your thoughts

I like pool movies, this one is good, TC does a great job playing an asshole. Entertaining but not great, Paul is nice. End scattered message

It IS a great movie, you've just been brainwashed because it hasn't been on any top 100 list you've studied.

so i'm going to ask for an honest opinion from everyone here...no-one felt cheated by the fact that the movie ends on the break of that fair match between vince and fast eddie? having basically built up this simmering rivalry between the jaded master and his dickheaded apprentice, didn't you wanna see who won? would the film not have been better on the potting of the final nine ball? just five minutes more?

or were they just setting it up for the third in a trilogy when paul newman has been resurrected using cryogenics? :P

No. That's not what the movie is about. The last line says it all: "Hey, I'm back."

I fucking love this movie, I think it's pretty underrated. Scorsese is his usual flawless self behind the camera and Tom Cruise is awesome as usual in front of it...definitely the 2nd best preformance of his career (only behind Magnolia).

If you've seen the Color of Money but not the Hustler you should check out the later. It's way better.

this is one of Scorsese's most overlooked film. I dig it, and i can watch it over and over the same i cant say for kundon.
its not as great as goodfellas but its a lot better then casino, to me this film is a film fanatic doing a update on a old film he loved, and it shows .

i can think of lots of films where i would love to do updates on, not a typical sequel, ala dr dolittle part 2 , but like what he did with the color of money .

that is so dead on. Good work ma man. These are the same people who say that they will not watch a movie unless critics give them props first. Yuck who needs that shit, I guess that is why so few great film makers come out yet, no nothing film snob robots are dime a dozen.

I dont really pay much mind to critics, I will look on IMDB to see what ebert gave something after I watch a movie just our of curiosity. Its not so much I dont care what they think is good, I am just too lazy to care.

There are internet snobs everywhere on the net.. they feel safe being snobs because they're at a keyboard.. I like to label them more as ignorant than snobbish.. because snobbish people I bet are more passionate while the ignorant people are just stupid.
I felt "The Colour of Money" was alright, but "The Hustler" was much better and I personally would've felt better knowing there was no sequel.. because it was unjust for Newman to win for the second film. And somebody said it was Tom Cruise's second best performance?  Did you sleep through "Born on the Fourth of July"?
