If everyone's gonna bitch and moan about the outcome of our own awards then why even have them? Why doesn't everyone just have their own fucking awards, that way everyone's ideas and opinions are met. These awards resemble the popular vote on this site, most people here love PDL so, not surprisingly, it wins the most awards. So? It was a great movie and worthy of recognition. Is it worthy of every award it got? Who knows, it's just opinions anyway. Not everyone will agree with every single win, it never happens. We bitch about the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes and eveything else and then we bitch when we have our own chance to honor the movies we deemed worthy of winning that might have been overlooked by the 'system'. I think we just like to bitch.

It just struck me as ironic how most of us would say the Oscars are shit and then we have our own thing and we think it's shit too.

In fact, I'm probably still employed thanks to internet message boards. They allow me to unload all my surplus sarcasm so the hardcore stuff isn't directed towards a client or sales rep while on the job.
I haven't been bitching about PDL rocking on at the awards...I was one of the contributors after all, I probably voted for it in every category it was nominated for. I guess it was sort of boring and I think it will be every year PTA releases a film. Don't get me wrong, I praise god for PDL and PTA...many people including myself really do feel PDL was the best film of the year and a miracle in many ways...it fucking was. I just think that PTA will dominate because he truly is the best, not because people like him for no reason.
Next year's awards should be a lot more fun and unpreditable...unless PTA decides to release a film of course.
Which would be awesome!

Complaining is fine. As years go on, fanboy smuttiness will start to disappear and we will see a difference in winners more. For these awards, I would choose like Cannes, where you try to spread the awards out more to honor all good films. But complaining is fine and I may be wrong, but i have yet to hear anyone call the Xixax awards as bad as the oscars and everyone here secretly pays attention to everything that award show says, if agreeing with it or not.

They do exist. The coincidence is that many of them happen to congregate at a place that held an awards competition. Thus our results.
It's like TV or radio ratings. If you get a sample that's not representative of the true "general public" then you get skewed results.
I like the fact that our community is a tad atypical. It gives it character. But we should have expected that this would happen. It's not like upset was really an upset.
I think most people did find PDL the best movie of the year, but when you got into more minor categories, (sound, editing) you got people mainly voting off fav film instead of what deserved to win. PDL still can be best movie of the year and not win those. I use to be the biggest defender of PDL as best movie of the year, but Spirited Away grows even more on me with every viewing (seen it 4 times so far), so I don't know.

In the last 48 hours this board has grown to be overwhelming to look at.
That's a beautiful thing, because now people only respond to conversations they really care about rather than trying to just get their post count really high.
