Title: Best Foreign Film You've seen...
Post by: aalixjr on January 25, 2005, 12:17:08 AM
There's been an influx of good foreign films in the last five years...

What's the best you've seen?

"Foreign film" is a bit of a misnomer on any Internet forum.  Think about it.

I hope this thread doesn't become popular enough that it bunches all foreign film news and talk together. I still think a movement could be revived for a foreign film forum, but the mods seem to agree to not like that idea.

That's because it would do this:

Quote from: The Gold Trumpetbunches all foreign film news and talk together
Also, we have enough non-American members that it would be ridiculous to call their films "foreign."

Then let me center my argument better so I get my point across. Maybe the name foreign forum is wrong, but what about a forum for those works that are considered obscure? What about a boutique section separate of the films considered mainstream by Hollywood and most of XIXAX. By requesting a "foreign film forum", I ask for that because the implication of a foreign film is usually a film that fits description of what I am talking about.

Alas, you won't get much of a ruckus out of me. Since the last time I brought up this argument, these boards have died down considerably. Most threads can be visible for long periods of time and don't need special recognition.

That's an even worse idea. Do you have some kind of marginalizing impulse?

There's no organizational or philosophical reason to separate these things.

Let's see here..

Napoleon Dynamite goes in this section..

Oh shit! Mainstream movie goers loved this?

Fuck. Nevermind. Now I hate it..

I completely agree with having a foreign film forum...

There was before when a thread about an obscure director would pop up in the director's forum and then would backed up to the second page almost a day later. Yes, these threads got lower number of replies but I think they had a right to be amongst the popular threads and able to see by anyone who didn't feel like digging back pages and pages. Thats no longer an issue though, but it was.

Getting the green screen never felt like a victory for me anyways. I was defended by 3 people and picked apart by the rest leaving me thinking my time on XIXAX was done because it was all just too tiring. My interest in movies drained and I became non existent only to see Green Screen being jump started months later when my interest in it couldn't have been lower. So excuse me if its taking me time do something I haven't done in a good year and half. Write essays. I do plan on writing something shortly and becoming a regular contributor.

Maybe I should have just kept suggesting more award gimmicks like XIXAX awards and the eventually titled Dekapenticon (sp?) to save the peace.

Don't get hostile about this.. I'm saying that the GS was essentially your idea.. so if you aren't going to contribute to that, haha, then why vent about a new idea already? S'all I'm saying..   and also, it's not like you had to write a new essay strictly for thr GS. People have been submitting things they did in the past.

If you wanna keep promoting a 2005 Dekapenticon, I will support you wholeheartedly.

.......As I said, when I originally proposed the Foreign Language Forum, I thought it would have been a postive and necessary addition. I don't believe that anymore. The boards have died down enough to give the obscure films and filmmakers a fair shot on the boards. Any argument I'm partaking with JB on this only has to do with the credentials of the idea back when I made it. Nothing more. No further begging coming from me for anything.
