Autopsy on Rick James is inconclusive
An autopsy performed over the weekend on "Super Freak" singer Rick James failed to establish the cause of his death, a Los Angeles County coroner's spokesman said Monday. The autopsy found no sign of foul play but "no obvious sign" of what caused the 56-year-old funk music pioneer's death, coroner's spokesman David Campbell said. Toxicology tests, expected within 10 weeks, could provide a clearer picture, he said.

Rick James goes out on funky note at funeral

Toxicology and other tests determined that funk singer Rick James died last month from a heart attack due to an enlarged heart, with numerous drugs including methamphetamine and cocaine contributing factors, the county coroner's office announced Thursday. The death was declared an accident, said coroner's spokesman David Campbell, who emphasized that none of the drugs were found to be at life-threatening levels.
