The description of the movie makes it sound kind of "Dude, Where's My Car?"-ish, but the cast is promising (Fred Willard, Luis Guzman, Christopher Meloni, Ryan Reynolds). No trailer online yet, but it's supposed to be attached to ENVY when it comes out next week.
Fred Willard? the guy from Tremors?
Pete, they stole our lives!

but it's the same guy that directed an episode of Freaks and Geeks!
how bad can it be?
Not too many good gags in that trailer, but you gotta love the way only one of them flinches when the guy tries to scare them.

"New Line Cinema presents that Asian guy from American Pie...and that Indian guy from Van Wilder."
And Neil Patrick Harris.

Seems rather funny. I love the title/premise (seeing as how they're the same, aren't they?). Envy was a total bummer though.
Here's the first review (http://aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=17616) of it I've seen. This guy says the movie wasn't funny, but then some of the stuff he describes (Jamie Kennedy as a guy who gets too close to you when you're peeing, and Christopher Meloni as a guy with pus-filled boils) sounds kind of funny to me.
I haven't seen the trailer, but having seen the movie, I'm willing to bet that if you think the trailer is funny, you'll probably like the movie. I thought it was pretty amusing. I'm sure stoners everywhere will love it, and White Castle will reap massive profits as a result. Fred Willard and Ryan Reynolds are both really funny, but someone mentioned Luis Guzman in some post above, and he was nowhere to be found.
The two leads were at the screening and the Indian dude from Van Wilder revealed that the white castle burgers consumed in the film were in fact veggie burgers, since he's vegetarian.

so, by using the 'officail stoner rating system' would you say this film was:
-one toke of schwag off a cheap one hitter
-a pretty decent joint w/ okay weed
-a cheech and chong-like blunt
-nice kind bud smoked out of a four foot bong
or...
-a gathering of friends smoking the finest herb from a huka........
Actually, can I plead ignorance in regards to your rating system?
I've only seen part of one Cheech And chong movie and I didn't really like it. I did, however, find Half Baked fairly amusing back in the day.
I saw this on Saturday because I forgot that Bourne Supremacy and Manchurian Candidate were also playing :? :-D
H&K had some amusing scenes, but in between I thought it was kind of dull. Worth $3 of the $6 I paid for it. The best scenes were with Neil Patrick Harris, but the cheetah, cops, and Jamie Kennedy were funny too. I was hoping it would be more outrageous than it was. Not horrible, but you can definitely find something better to watch. Oh well. I'll make up for it this weekend with Zatoichi and Collateral.

it was funny and all, but one thing I really didn't like about the film was how homophobic it was. I think the gay jokes were attempts to "normalize" the two Asian characters, because the Asian characters have a long history of being asexual and doing kungfu. So the first thing they did was to bar fist fights from the movie (or at least not show them), and then in order to sexualize them, the writers went over the top with the homophobia, so mainstream America could identify with them and finally accept that they're two normal and horny dudes or something.
Quote from: peteit was funny and all, but one thing I really didn't like about the film was how homophobic it was.
I'm not kidding when I ask this question: What homophobic jokes were in the movie? And no, I wasn't high when I saw it. Outside of a couple of VERY subtle jokes with the two Jewish neighbors and the racist assholes making fun of them, I really don't remember anything that could be construed as offensive, definitely not in relation to other comedies of recent years, the Scary Movies for example.
the only other one i could think of was when harold passed out and kumar started doing "gay" things to wake him up...
all in all, i went in there with low expectations, hoping to "escape" a long day at work, and laughed my ass off. (and im not even a stoner!)
I said they were homophobic; I wasn't personally offended. the jokes were subtle, but they were still homophobic. the punchlines come from the discomfort towards the same sex being to close or whatever, and I think that comes from the writers' needs to oversexualize the two characters ('cause wanting to score chicks alone wasn't enough, they must also NOT want to touch dudes).
this is not some kind of PC tirade against stereotypes or whatever, this is an observation on how the writers sexualize the two main characters.
i get what you say, but i thought it was fairly accurate in how it depicted those type of friendships...
accurate or not, still homophobic right?
sure...
Well, I guess so but passive homophobia, like passive racism, is just a given in the teen/stoner comedy. Sometimes it's played properly; most of the time it isn't. Considering how much more reserved and less mean-spirited the gay jokes were in H&K than in any number of movies that have come out in recent years, I found it odd that you even called the movie out for it. That's why I asked.
I called this one out because I thought the sexual politics in this film is actually a little bit more calculated than an average teen movie, that the writers worked up the sexual aspects of the movie in order to combat the stereotypes of the Asian male.

i thought it was pretty funny. it passed the time...
New Line has officially announced the DVD release of Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle for 1/4/05. Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (SRP $27.95) will be available in separate R-rated and Extreme Unrated versions. Both will be anamorphic widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Extras on the R-rated version will include deleted/alternate scenes, 4 interview/production featurettes, audio commentary with director Danny Leiner and actors John Cho and Kal Penn, another commentary with writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the theatrical trailer and a DVD-ROM script-to-screen option. The Extreme Unrated version will include these extras plus "extreme" outtakes, a bonus "extreme" commentary by Danny Bouchard and All Too Much's Yeah music video.
the whole "unrated" dvd thing is such a sham. i just picked up the girl next door "unrated" dvd and didn't notice any difference to the theatrical version. impressionable dvd buyers see the words "unrated" on a dvd and immediately assume it means and increased tit-factor. instead, they get more footage of jason biggs himping a pie(a la the american pie "unrated dvd")if anyone knows what differences there were in the girl next door dvd tell me. i must've blinked at the wrong time or something.

DVD features from Amazon.comThe unrated director's cut of The Girl Next Door delivers about half a minute of extra nudity and sexual footage. Without adding anything to the running time of the R-rated theatrical cut, the unrated edition substitutes steamier footage into the film Eli watches while talking to Matt, and removes some digitized bikinis in part of the strip-club scene. (The new cut also has a more threatening scene between Matt and Kelly.) Don't expect to see more of star Elisha Cuthbert, though; she didn't do any nude scenes, as she explains in one of the five scenes she provides commentary for.
