Alright, so this is an idea I have so I hope I am able to convey it to everyone here clearly. Directors often remind us of other directors, who remind of us other directors, and so on. So, why don't we try to trace current directors back to a director before him, and so on. Perhaps by the end of this thread, we can trace everyone back to a few key directors (perhaps Melies & Griffith), we'll see.
I'll start it out, feel free to add a completely different lineage or to add on to mine, or to dispute it.
Jean Renoir > Robert Altman > PT Anderson

Ya, I noticed that before I made this topic. I think this is a different subject though. That is trying to classify filmmakers into established categories; this is trying to establish categories.
David Lean > Steven Spielberg
Arthur Penn > Oliver Stone
Hitchcock > Fincher

that's the spirit.
Mountain Dew Commercials > McG
Hitchcock > Spielberg > M. Night
Hitchcock > DePalma > Roger Avery

Could you explain? Especially the DePalma > Avary.
just 'cause of the frequent Split/screen or anything else...

hahahahaha!!
Might be funnier if the approach was like: if this director + this director had a baby...
might be funnier if we ignore mutinyco's suggestion..
Or even funnier yet if Pubrick had used that footage of Bjork attacking the reporter at the airport in his avatar...
more like depressing and exploitive

No...would've been if he used that guy who sent her the mail bomb, then painted himself up like D'Onofrio in The Cell and blew his brains out...

Just the use of split screen really. I wanted to go down another notch, and Avery was the only person that really came to mind for DePalma.
