Trailer here. (http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/taking_lives/)
Release Date: March 19th, 2004 (wide)
Cast: Angelina Jolie (FBI Agent Illeana Scott), Ethan Hawke (John Costa), Jean-Hugues Anglade, Paul Dano, Tcheky Karyo, Olivier Martinez, Gena Rowlands, Kiefer Sutherland.
Director Notes: D.J. Caruso (The Salton Sea).
Screenwriter: Jon Bokenkamp (the direct-to-video project, Bad Seed, AKA Preston Tylk).
Premise: Based upon the novel by British author Michael Pye, a successful FBI profiler, Illeana Scott (Jolie), is summoned to help out Canadian law enforcement in Montreal, to hunt down a serial killer who assumes the lives and identities (hence the title) of the people he kills as he travels across North America, which forces Illeana to adjust to working in a strange city with a police team with which she doesn't really fit in with. (Ethan Hawke plays a museum employee "deputized" into helping the effort to find an art professor wanted for stealing several priceless works).
The trailer came on in the theater I was in and a woman behind yelled, "It takes some sick minds to come up with stuff like that!"
The poster's kinda nice.
I liked Salton Sea enough to be interested in what DJ Caruso does next.
Gena Rowlands is awesome.
Angelina Jolie gets naked.
Not expecting much, but I'll see it.
Angelina Jolie AND Kiefer Sutherland???
*masturbates furiously*
....i liked the salton sea alot......there's not a whole lot of films that can end w/ the credits to the tune of a tantric song......but it was pulled off well in salton sea....also i liked the cinematography of salton sea.....for some reason i'm reall excited by this years film.s.....even though 2003 was rock solid....

took the words right outta my mouth....and it wasnt anything compared to my second viewing of spotless mind right before
Saw this right after Eternal Sunshine and this thing completely ruined all of my conversations for the rest of the day. The technical stuff was well-done, I guess (editing, in particular), but I didn't like the movie at all. The only thing(s) that redeemed it were Angelina Jolie's tatees, which were exquisite. Ethan Hawke had a nice performance, too, I suppose.

That's depressing on more than a couple levels.
you didnt really get a good look at them either, but yeah the movie did suck
I didn't go to see this movie for a cheap glimspe at Jolie's body or to compare it to Eternal Sunshine, so if anyone still wants to read my review....
A routine, by-the-numbers thriller with few thrills. Another case where Jolie is so much better than the material she has to work with. The story is flat, and the killer is predictable, as are the twists which fall into clicheland. It was very uninvolving; no tension to catch the killer or a ticking clock to hunt him/her down before his/her next kill.

Sad but true, I'm afraid.
yeah, this was bad. not catwoman bad, but a notch or two above. so, still pretty bad. good cast, bad movie. nobody rent this, please.
ADMIN EDIT - *SPOILERS*
Seeing a pregnant Jolie getting stabbed in the stomach is wish-fulfillment of the highest order. And I don't care if I spoiled anything. The movie is fucking garbage and not worth your time anyway. If you wanna see Angie get down, just rent 'Gia' again.
You're gone over a month and return to spoil "Taking Lives"? What happened?
I saw the thread, my hatred runs deep... what can I say?
You've been missed. :(
Yeah, this place seems to have really went down the shitter since I split town
I went to a party this past Wednesday night and a few of the idiots were trying to watch Taking Lives, but it was too noisy. So my friend set it up for people to watch in his room. No one seemed to care. Too busy chatting and doing other things, what people do at parties, you know.
Like two hours later out comes this weird kid that I thought had left 2 hour prior. My friend that I'm sitting with says, "where were you?" and this kid is like, "watching that movie..alone since no one else seemed to want to watch it" hahah. He watched it all by himself....when there was a party going on. What a lame-o.
