Title: most overlooked/ underrated films of '03
Post by: pete on January 02, 2004, 02:11:54 AM
come make your list while it's hot.

in my opinion, Ong Bak.  This is a Thai action movie that has some of the most insane stunts and fights, not to mention they're really original and well-photographed, without wires nor special effects.  However, because it's a Thai film, and because somehow the Thai distributors have yet to release a version with subtitles, or an NTSC version at all, most people have yet to see it.
a little site for it, if you got divx check out the clips:

Guess you're too mainstream to notice the real arthouse festivals.
I saw the movie. It was alright. The JJ cameo was funny though.

I think we have a synopsis here...flesh out it out to 10 page treatment and 'll do the grunt work and scribble down the 240+ page script.

So've established me, Pantalones and Mr. BurgerKing to make fun of. Who else?

Who's our leading man?
More importantly, who's the bad guy?

GT's the badguy AT FIRST, then we have to team up with him to take care of a greater evil (Ratner? Shumacher?)

All right, so several Xixaxians get together and make a film starring Halle Berry, it premieres in GT's hometown and he trashes it in a scathing review.  Everyone gets mad at GT, and right before he is impaled in front of everyone, Mac runs up with news that Halle Berry signed on to do 2 sequels to the movie directed by Ratner.  We all wonder how they could do this and figure out that Halle Berry used her fancy Hollywood lawyer to fuck with the contracts so that now she owns them, and will be credited as producer and creator, so the death of GT is postponed so you can go to Hollywood and, oh, I don't know, kill everyone.

whatever happens in the movie, it needs to be assequential, shot on reversal, projected at 1.33, and be in pig-latin with no subtitles...

Oh yeah, and there's a shot of a guy just scratching his nuts for fifteen minutes.

Following that, we cut back to the dude scratching his nuts at which point Sigur Ros drives up in his Dirkmobile, jumps out, and kicks a soccer ball at the dude's nuts. Then arrives XIXAX himself, chainsaw on one hand, Oliver North's War Stories in the other, and begins battling zombies coming from a manhole.

But XIXAX can't fight them all off so MacGuffin saves the day by redirecting the zombies - back down the manhole.

...where GDIDM dwells.

Quote from: Jeremy Blackman...where GDIDM dwells.
here the action slows down, as gdidm is in the middle of a big domestic with his former live-in lover e-snizz. sniz is moving out and there's nothing gdidm can do to stop him. as snizz leaves the manwhole with the last of his luggage and belongings, gdidm sheds a tear of cream.. the single droplet splashes in a puddle below, sending ripples along. as phil collins' "I Wish It Would Rain Down" begins to play, we see a montage of other xixax couples and their current predicaments, the sad ones sing along, the others smile obliviously as if in their own separate soundtrack. we see  slog and pas, phil and sigur, mog and dirk, pic and an apparition of sphinx, mac and a mosaic of all of budgie's avatars.

it's a touching moment, and so ends the first act.
