No thread for one of the greatest bands ever. Well now there is. I quoted "Pinball Wizard" on the Songs In My Head thread not long ago.. So many of their songs are amazing.. Is there even sense in me listing them? It's like listing Scorsese movies on a Scorsese appreciation thread.. we all know the artist and naturally know the works.. but I guess if I'm presuming too much: My Generation, Baba O'Riley, The Kids Are Alright, etc. etc. No sense in listing them all. The Who is fucking fantastic.
My favorites are "Pictures of Lily" and "I'm a Boy."
Won't Get Fooled Again contains one of the all-time best rock 'n roll screams...
Anybody get the latest dvd they put out? Townsend's little bit with Paul Weller was great.
Pinball Wizzard, Baba O Reily, Behind Blue Eyes my favourites.
I like how their music is used in summer of sam

Very correct
Live at Leeds is the real deal, too
They're one of the greatest rock bands of all time, no doubt. They're on a short list for me alongside The Beatles and The Ramones (although those bands could also be classified under pop music, something The Who avoided). But man...they need to hang it up. Especially now that Entwhistle's gone. I heard some of recordings from their last tour and it just sounded like old men trying too hard. Maybe seeing them live is different, but I won't be paying for a ticket to find out.

They can only be considered the
second most shamelessly reunion-happy/cash-mad "classic" band in the world for as long as the Stones keep flogging the dead horse, though...
HEY! They still sound great.

As much as it pains me to put down my favorite band, yes, you're right. I think they should have hung it up after their appearance at the Concert For New York 9/11 thing. That shit was just amazing. When Daltrey did 'Behind Blue Eyes,' I nearly burst into tears.

Enough said. So many songs to choose from. "Won't get fooled again" not only has that fucking great scream, but also an amazing synthesizer solo along the way that's just brilliant.
Baba O'Riley, 5.15, I Can See For Miles, the whole "Tommy" album and the wonderful A Quick One, While He's Away - one of the best songs I've ever heard and yes, Wes Anderson helped a lot on that.
The first script I ever attempted to write was inspired by Behind Blue Eyes. Yeah, I fucking love The Who.
The who?
I love The Who. :(

Fuck..... I once tried to write a script inspired by Behind Blue Eyes... I never finished it. Basically, I just fucked it up big time.
The albums you need to listen to are "Tommy", "Quadrophenia", and "Who's Next". Pete Townshend is one of the greatest song writers ever, along with one of the greatest lyricists in the past 50 years.
Tommy was the first listen I had of them...and tho not a huge fan...I will still through Tommy in every once in awhile. I still need to hear more...as other than that, all I have is By the Numbers (?) or something...

I have the soundtrack.... it's great.
Substitute is one of my favorite song
Do you prefer early Who or later Who ? I prefer early, when they sounded more like the beatles.
Tough question...possibly earlier
Earlier.
Townshend and Daltrey may reunite
From Associated Press
The Who may be returning, again.
In a posting on his website, Pete Townshend says that he and singer Roger Daltrey are planning to get together for the first Who studio album in more than two decades.
"Roger and I [will] meet in mid-December to play what we have written," Townshend, the guitarist and primary songwriter of the group, writes. "If we move ahead from there, we may have a CD ready to release in the spring. My working title for the project — 'Who2' — is only partly tongue-in-cheek."
Despite famously proclaiming "hope I die before I get old" in the song "My Generation," the Who have frequently reunited to perform since disbanding in 1983. But the new album would be the British band's first studio recording since 1982's "It's Hard."
The other two members of the original Who, drummer Keith Moon and bassist John Entwistle, died in 1978 and 2002, respectively.
