I just came from a free PreScreening of Old School and I thought I would let all of you know what I thought of it.
The beginning of the film is well done. It is funny, well paced and Vaughn, Wilson and Ferrell are excellent. Half way through I was very impressed and I was starting to think that this was going to be as successful as Road Trip (a film I did enjoy).
The last half of the film is very disappointing. It appears that the film blew its load during the first half and has nothing left. I think I found one part of the last half funny. Too much time is spent trying to salvage a mediocre story rather than keeping the comic pacing it had going in the first half.
Final Grade: B -
I can't get over the image of John Shaft giving his review of Old School.
That's some funny shit.
Who do I blame if this movie sucks? Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, and Luke Wilson are three genuinely hilarious people, and the director did "Road Trip", which I really enjoyed, but then I see the trailer for it and there isn't a single moment that makes me laugh... It must be the script, but if the script was so bad, why did all these people agree to be in it?
Of course, I may see the movie and think it's brilliant, and then all this would just make me look like an ass. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I know what you mean... it's kind of like Stealing Harvard... that had some funny damn (no, I'm not a Tom Green fan, but he's not really in it much) people in it and directed by a Kid from the Hall, but it was the most unfunny pile of shit.
it a good, funny movie. But it no animal house.

Old school, who was in it again? i forget
will ferrel is such a funny fucking guy, not only from SNL, but I get the impression he's a hilarious guy in real life as well. Its too bad most of his film roles suck. Why oh why did he leave SNL and subject us to that jackass Chris Parnell and his horrific Bush impression?

"hello up there. i seem to have fallen down a cliff. I'm still alive, but i'm very badly injured. i think my legs might be broken, but i'm..i'll try to stand up (snap) ohahhh. YES, they are broken. perhaps you could toss me a band-aid or some anti-bacterial creme. i am in an extrodinary-ly large amount of pain. the bone has gone through the skin. i feel it might be gangelous. the wound is beginning to smell a little like almonds -- which is not good. please...no one. i'll try the other leg (snap) ohhh."

"My mistake, Jacobim."
"Your mistake, indeed!"
I just saw a screening last night and i would have to say this movie hilarious thanks to Will of course. The man is hillarious! I liked it and would recommend it for a few good laffs.
THis movie is HILARIOUS!!! i've been waiting for a good comedy and YES, thanks to Will and Vince V, this is a very funny movie.
everyone GO see it and laugh your arses off.
hmmm, I wonder if they re cut it since I last saw it.
The first half is hilarious...the second half isn't at all.
ive known about old school before it even went into production, i cant wait to see it. I think it will be, honestly, the best college movie since animal house. that says alot, since theres been a lot of pretenders.
I really feel like i should get a producer credit for this movie, just because ive known about it for so damn long. even associate producer, ill take that too.
But... but I thought "Van Wilder" was the best college movie since "Animal House".... that's what all the ads said...
I saw it the other day too, and I was surprised that it wasn't really all that raunchy. It was really kind of sentimental, actually. I enjoyed it, a lot of good laughs, and Will Ferrell continues to prove that he is in fact God.
I really really want to see this. Will, Vince and Luke are three of the most consistently fucking hilarious people in the world. Now, Road Trip is pretty funny but I really hope this is better, it looks like it really has the potential to be. I love to see comedies like this every once in awhile. The last really funny one that came out would have to be either Super Troopers or Zoolander. I think those are fucking hilarious. When I just want to laugh, those are the best kind of movies. I'm not really into those dumb, gross-out movies like American Pie and Austin Powers, fuck those movies. Those usually suck for the most part. The Farrelly's and Kevin Smith are the only ones that can make genuinely funny gross out movies. It's about time we strayed away from that shit, can't wait to see this movie.
I thought this was pretty damned funny.
Nothing I would ever really want to buy or even see again, probably, but still really funny.
I liked that it just dove into the most formulaic plot possible for that sort of movie, didn't even bother to try to make it different, just focused on the comedy.
I came I saw I laughed. It was ok.
If i could put it in 7 words?- Will Ferrell good, not enough vince vaughn.
(THe speaker city commercial was hilarious, i was the only one in the theatre laughing at that.)

I havent seen a good comedy in years and I will argue with you to my death how unfunny Zoolander was, I couldnt even crack a smile. I want a REAL Dumb and Dumber 2.

You didn't even like Owen Wilson in Zoolander? Come on man, he's so fucking funny....
"I wasn't like every other kid, you know, who dreams of being an astronaut, I was more interested in what tree bark was made out of."
"So, I'm falling and falling, right? It's the worst terror I've ever felt in my life, but then I stop myself and I say...wait a second...Hansel, haven't you been on speed for the past 2 hours?"
To each his own I suppose. I know you have good taste in movies and I'm not exactly going to defend Zoolander to the death, it's a guilty pleasure of mine, nothing more.

I can wax my own car, thank you. Hey anybody (MacGuffin) what is the scoop with Will Farrel and the movie "Elf"?
Elf is coming out in November. It's directed by Jon Favreau. I believe it's a children's film about a man who either becomes an elf or an elf who escape Santa's workshop...something like that. Something to give Will Ferrell the chance to play an elf.
He did a cameo on SNL last night with Britney Spears, in which they announced they were in love and leaving showbiz to raise chickens together in New England.Steve Martin and Jim Carrey also cameoed...must have been a fun night ot be in the audience.
Quote from: Duck SauceHey anybody (MacGuffin) what is the scoop with Will Farrel and the movie "Elf"?
Release Date: November 7th, 2003 (wide)
Cast: Will Ferrell (Buddy), Ed Asner (Santa Claus), James Caan (Buddy's Father), Zooey Deschanel, Bob Newhart (Buddy's Adopted Elf Father), Mary Steenburgen, Daniel Tay.
Director: Jon Favreau (Made)
Screenwriter: David Berenbaum (The Haunted Mansion); rewrite by Jon Favreau.
Premise: Many years ago, a human child was adopted by one of Santa Claus (Asner)'s elves (Newhart) after the little boy accidentally ended up in one of Santa's bags of presents and got whisked away to the North Pole. Now fully grown as a very tall human man, Buddy (Ferrell), his distinctly non-elvishness regularly causes havoc in Santa's workshop, which inspires the jolly old elf to suggest that he travel out into the world of men, and try to find his biological father (Caan) and family back in New York City... (Deschanel plays a department store elf who befriends Buddy; Steenburgen plays Caan's wife).
Hey bonanzataz were does that Latte quote come from. I know Ive heard it before.
that would be zoolander, sir.
Zoolander cracked me up, too. But I have a soft spot for Ben Stiller.

Yeah, they're supposedl releasing the show on DVD sometime this year. MacGuffin probably knows where/when/how/why...
I just saw the Elf teaser trailer attached to Finding Nemo. It cracked me up. Will Ferrell is God.
"I think i see Blue, He looks Glorious!"
I saw Old School a while ago and was bored. I didn't think it was all that funny. A few jokes here and there made me laugh, but otherwise it was a letdown. A movie with Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson, and Vince Vaughn should be funnier.
I saw this again last night and I cracked up when I saw that Mitch's boss is John Locke (Terry O'Quinn from Lost)... well I actually laughed non-stop the whole movie but that was funny because I didnt recognize him before from other roles
and you know what i noticed the other night? in singles, the dude who the redheaded videodating biker chick ends up with at the end of the film is freakin' Jack Bristow (Victor Garber)!
Old School was a solid flick and Will Ferrel is great but I didn't laugh all that much as I thought I would.
The 2nd time you will crack up... I didnt love it the first time... but now every time I see it I almost have a heart attack from laughing so hard

I beg to differ. On a scale of one to funny, this movie is probably a vinyl record.
I laughed a few times first viewing. Not even laugh, a "heh..." or something close to that. I liked Anchorman though.
Back to Old School
Director returns for more hijinks.
Apparently, Todd Phillips and Dreamworks have reconciled their differences.
When IGN FilmForce last spoke with Todd Phillips in March of 2004, it sounded like he had no plans for Old School 2 after an apparent fallout with Dreamworks over their promotion of Eurotrip. "No, we're not gonna do Old School 2, Phillips said. "I had a little falling-out with DreamWorks off of this movie Eurotrip. I felt like they really marketed it off of my two movies, even though I had nothing to do with it and it just looked like the worst movie ever. But somehow I got dragged into it and it made me crazy. And I said, 'If you do this, I won't do Old School 2.' And they said, 'Well, this is business. We've gotta worry about this movie right now...' I don't even want to talk about it. I didn't see it, I won't see it and it kinda pissed me off. So, that's why I won't do business with them. Yeah, it's a bummer."
Well, as they like to say in Hollywood (at least I think they do) money heals all wounds.
According to Variety, Dreamworks greenlit Old School 2 this week and Phillips has been named as writer and director. Montecito Pictures is set to produce. Dreamworks Jeremy Kramer will oversee the project.
No word yet on whether Will Ferrell will return to bare his naked posterior again or whether fellow castmates Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson and Jeremy Piven will return.
Meanwhile, Phillips is aboard to direct The Disassociate as well as a remake of School For Scoundrels, which will star Billy Bob Thornton.
Great news!
I was dissapointed when I heard that the project got cancelled and that it was almost impossible for them to get back to it.
Now I hope they all come back, or it will suck
