Title: Thinking about buying a new desktop for video editing (help)
Post by: GodDamnImDaMan on August 19, 2003, 01:44:41 PM
Just wondering what specs i would probably need for good video editing.

I have a lab top right now, that i try to use for video editing, but the thing runs to damn slow. My lab top is a P4 1.6 GHZ, 512 MB of ram, and 40 gigs.

What would i need on my desktop comp to basically have no slowdowns, at all? I can prolly spend between a good thousand to 2 thousand dollars.

First of all get a fast harddrive with very low access time and of course lots of space. That could be why it runs slow on your computer.

I've been doing a little research on this also.  Two hard drives, one to run programs off of, and the other to store the video, is recommended.  Of course, lots of RAM.  Do dual processors help with video editing and rendering?

GDIDM, if you think your computer is slow, I'm using a 233 MHz, 4.3 gig, 32 MB RAM PC from 1997.  Obviously I can't video on it.

Scary, because I have almost the same damn thing. Getting a new one in about October and I also need to get a lot of shit for editing and such.

Here. This is what you need. And buy an external hard drive to store everything on.

Hmph. Propagandist.

GDIDM, I disagree with Mutinyco.

Go with what you know. Buy a nice PC with an assload of RAM and fast big hard drive and processor, and sink an extra $500 on a firewire card and Premiere.

There's love in my heart for you, too, Cecil.

But Pantalones just does something for me "down there"...

Sorry.
