I was watching Back to the Future Part II yesterday, and found that I knew the movie verbatim, only because I watched that whole trilogy interminably as a kid. BTTF and Clue, I could recite by myself, with sound effects. I had this weird ability to take all the sounds at face value so I've memorized each beat of those films.

die hard. took up 3 years entirely of movie experience and knowledge extends to every cut, line and facial moment slurred through that problematic, but great film. Its even funner to watch now considering its lack of challenge in the action department.

And I'm not ashamed!
I can usually play out A Clockwork Orange, Bringing Out The Dead, and Natural Born Killers in my head without missing any parts.

Those are a few I've seen at least 10x each. I've probably seen Magnolia over 20 times. The Matrix over 30 at least.
I literally know every scene and every piece of dialouge in "Hard Eight". I wasn't trying to memorize any of it, but I've seen it so many times that it just happened that way.
I did the same thing with "Taxi Driver". I've seen it probably at least 15 times.

I can't really remember Half Baked I've always been totally stoned while watching it!
When I was a little kid, I pretty much just watched the same movies over and over again. UHF and Ferris Bueller's Day Off are the ones I've probably seen the most.
Interestingly enough, my old roommate and I used to put those movies on, turn down the volume, and recite the lines into a microphone I had hooked up to my stereo. You have no idea how fun this was. The neighbors must have thought we were psychotic.
Other movies I have seen way too many times include: Back to the Future, The Goonies and Problem Child.
Since all the movies listed above are literally part of my sub-conscious, or "part of my DNA," as Mr. Anderson would say, I wonder what would have happened had I watched, say, The 400 Blows instead of Problem Child, Playtime instead of UHF.

Farewell
I just realized the other day that I know everything in Swingers. I was watching it and it hit me that I didn't need to be, but I still really wanted to watch most of the scenes and that's why it's fucking great.
I often wonder if I saw Batman again since 93 if I would still have parts memorized, cause, man, I knew that motherfucker inside out
Shit man, I can probably do Swingers too. That movie's my life (minus all the going out, getting chicks, and trying to work as a comedian/actor).

I hate knowing movies by heart, current viewings of my childhood favorites have nearly been ruined by knowing every little detail of 'em. I used to love reciting every piece of dialogue in Back to the Future, loved it, felt like I was more of a fan, I guess. But last year I discovered a lot of the magic just disappeared when you're no longer (even a little bit) supriced by some nitpickety detail you forgot. And that's the magic ain't it? So I decided (to assure maximum emotional impact), the following movies should not be watched more than twice each year, and at least four, five months between each viewing:
* Back to the Future (especially number one, but I find it hard watching one without the other, so I guess two and three qualify as well)
* The original Star Wars trilogy (particularly Empire Strikes Back)
* Pulp Fiction
* Raiders of the Lost Ark
* Almost Famous
* Magnolia
* Lord of the Rings (all of them)
All of them once known by heart, I am now in the process of "unlearing what I have learned". One day, I'll hold of watching any of them for a year or two, for the ultimate nostalgic nose-punch viewing.
Young Frankenstein
Reservoir Dogs
Star Wars Trilogy
Wow there's two young frankensteins?
