Hi there,
I was wondering what happened in the last day before the message board went down?
Did PTA reveal himself or something?
If you don't want to answer on the board, PM me.
I'm VERY curious about it all
As one of the first to sign up on the board - I deserve to know :(

A mole had infiltrated the EO. During the absence of the President and eohtoo the mole (aka eofoo) tried to pull a coup de tat. Declaring power for himself he began appointing Yabb gods and moderators to the elite organization. The eohtoo saw what was happening. He came back and single handedly thwarted the hostile takeover. Taking no prisoners. Leaving all burning at his feet.
One day the president returned. He began insinuating that eohtoo had been out of hand and that he felt he needed to heal the wounded in his village. A village that the eohtoo had already destroyed. Eohtoo tried to play it off with some lyrics. The president again laid into Eohtoo. Eohtoo deleted his earlier words and posted that he was not impressed. The president destroyed eohtoo with his final words. He banished eohtoo from his home. Eohtoo bowed out respectfully. The two that were once like brothers are now like sisters.
The next day the site was down.
Yeah, what was the deal with it, could somebody at least drop some clues?

Considering the explanation was posted right above you, in 3 neat packages, I think it's safe to say you'll always be clueless.
Sheriff, arrest this fool.
You know, its funny....they were talking about Fiona about a year ago on the "Velvet Rope", and someone got posting about Paul and said, "Paul........"....oh, never mind.

You flooded my basement and wetted my slippers
unbuttoned my buttons and unzipped my zippers
You took off my hat when my head needed shade
and voided my signature after I paid
You spat your pee tea on my shiny blue suit
and gave me a traitorous backward salute
You leveled the castle with children inside
and made leather boots but did not skin the hide
You looked at this town and you saw only drifters
a one-horse saloon with identity shifters
So what do you do when the fighter has drawn
but never can tell where his essence has gone

hmm. i can see that this sort of wit clearly demonstrates an age of 30 years or above from the poster. congradulations, you may now start writing!

I want to know what was the original concept, what was its purpose and how it didnt serve it. Do you need me to clear it up any more?
i hope greg doesn't mind me paraphrasing his words, but this is what he told me...
"Sorry, I just don't have the time and energy to fight the good fight
anymore. Most folks were great, but the few who ruined it were giving the
board (and also my site in general) a bad name."
This is easy, since I was the one that worked with Greg to start it.
In the beginning, our perfect world of board users were to be intelligent and make insightful comments about Paul's films. There would be discussion about the PTA players, speculation about things in Paul's films, and meaningful discussion about all things PTA.
By the time it was shut down, about 20% of the board's messages amounted to what we had intended the board to be used for.
What killed the board? Let's just say that "Peace Out" killed the board. Not directly, mind you, but the spirit of the entire thread that later permeated everything else on the system caused it all to drift woefully far from its original intended purpose. It finally got to a point where the board was (in Greg's exact words) more of a liability than an asset.
Look at Greg's board, and the thought that goes into making it an intelligent place. The bulletin board was a bad reflection on the C&C site. I don't blame him for yanking it. I would have done the same thing.
I intentionally created this NON-PTA board so that we could all get loose and not have to worry about it. Not that there aren't any rules here (there are) - we just don't need to worry about image because we don't have or need one.
If I could have said all of this in rhyme, I would have. But my rhymes blow goats. I can only speak English.
So the dad came in and he was like "I'm sick of you kids playing Lord of the Rings, you get in too many fights and the neighbors are starting to complain... From now on, the backyard's off limits."
"Frogs flying all over the place and landing in the neighbor's pool!"
Quote from: Xixax"Peace Out" killed the board.
It also saved the board.
Quote from: Jeremy BlackmanQuote from: Xixax"Peace Out" killed the board.

Maybe. It did promote off-topic conversation and bullshit. I read most of it while it was on Greg's board. Some of it was funny, and some of it was pretty stupid. But, I think that was the point.
I can't really fathom that Greg thought everyone would talk about PTA and nothing else. No offense to PTA, but I just can't sit around and wax his car all day. I do have other interests, like being a magician, because, y'know you can't fuck forever, I know that....
If you think that, when you create a message board for an artist, the conversation will even be 10% about said artist, you are either naive or stupid. Naive was the problem here. And I even warned him once, months before the board was up, ~ "message boards are a headache".
So yeah, I told you so.
Nah, actually, Greg musta known he was taking a chance it wouldn't work out. But anyway..... gheyest post ever.

i can't disagree with that more. all the chapters and pages of peace out did have a meaning, and the thread did go through several phases and stages. it was quite amazing to watch from the beginning, especially with that wonderful decoder ring. i still have the thread archived if those out of the know want to try to try again
the only thing Peace Out did was draw a line dividing those who wanted more out of that board, and those who were happy writing essays and making redundant comments. there was more love and INFORMATION in those 60+ pages than anywhere else.. and that's considering 90% of the members didn't even post in it. don't front on that.
Quote from: neatahwanta:roll: gheyest post ever.
word, but ur on point with the naivety call. the dream of having more than 10 intelligent posters at all is bullshit, let alone assuming that ppl's posts would reflect said intelligence. shit's still the same here, if not worse with what 5 maybe 7 non-zombies posting? it's a lost cause.
the spirit of Peace Out shouldn't be limited to one thread, ppl.. u can write what u feel! feel sumthing! Anything! FREE BARABAS!
and where the fuck did budgie go?
Quote from: Pppl.. u can write what u feel! feel sumthing! Anything! FREE BARABAS!
"Fuck it! I'm gay!".
I just know that Greg's board was like no other board I had been to (Aint it cool news and view askew are terrible) so I was kind of down when it closed. I'm just glad that this one is up and running and everyone is still around.

a-men. they're both shit, and while i can understand greg cutting it before it turned into something like that, it certainly wasnt anywhere near as crappy as those are.

i was depresed, then restless, trying to kick it. we're talking vomit, diarrhea, scratchcing the walls, punching the cat...i was just starting to get well when this board came up. i was hesitant at first, for ive been hurt before, but im starting to settle in. i only fear my hopeless, spiraling addiction will come back again.....
know what you mean *twitch* *twitch*

What was then?
Im sensing some trouble in paradise between you and PTA
You sense wrong. As I said, too much bullshit (from just a few folks). I got many emails daily ("ban this person", "ban that person", etc.). I just didn't have the time or energy to deal with it. It wasn't the expectation I had going in. Look, as I said, most of the board was great. I viewed it daily, but I think it works better as is. I've already cut a deal with Michael to promote the board on both sites periodically, that should hopefully drive more (hopefully) quality peeps here.
As for PTA, all is well. I got a nice xmas gift from the man and I'm crossing my fingers for a lengthy interview when he gets back from Europe...

You luck out with all the PTA stuff. You got that music video DVD and all....
Luck out?! I'm very thankful for all he does, but c'mon I've put a lot of energy and time into the site for almost four years so I don't mind a little treat now and then :D
Given the eloquence exhibited here and on the old boards, I think Cock might have a real future in writing.
...Like, maybe, Sunday School curriculum or something...
You done good, Greg.
The original spirit of the board will live forever, in the hearts and minds of every child, in the wind blowing through the trees on a sunny autumn day, and in the infected stuff around T's genitals.
May quality, occasionally film-related discussion with frequent tangents into profanity and absurdity never die.

No no, sorry if I made it seemed like I was being a dick. I was just goofing around, you deserve every treat you get.
Duck: No offense taken. It's all good :)
BTW, I liked T and all the Steven Brothers. I thought and still think they are funny as hell...
I have this funny feeling in my pants that the reason the board died was because of my more than serious posts.

There you go thinking again.
Listen Mac,
Why dont you go dissect and molest some more hot pockets?
Why is it that GDITM has more masturbatory knowledge than the average fourteen year old?
I am somewhat disturbed, yet oddly intrigued.

GDITM has that affect on people, I think it's the down home creaminess that just can't be beat.
It's just disappointing (the end of the original board.) I understand why it had to happen, why it needed to be moved, but there was alot of good discussion to be found there that just won't be repeated here because people don't like to rehash old topics (just redirect newbies to old threads.)
I deliberately avoided the board during the wait for PDL to open, I want to see the movie as fresh as possible. There's a heap of stuff there I wanted to get around to reading one day but now never will. The posts I feel I've really missed out on are people's first impressions of the film, and the threads on the fave films & DVD collections of the community. I've missed out, my bad luck I guess. And I'm still left with a 2 month wait to see this movie.
yeah, there was some good shit on that board. i wish id been given say, a day's notice to save some stuff. ah well, the past has its place, i suppose...
i think i agree with that one expression, you can't ever go home. i feel compeltely lost on this new board. i miss home. this one is too overwhelming. instead of the PTA board, it is the PTA/Kubrick/anderson...board. but of course you know this already anyway. that is percisely my dilemma. everyone knows everything and everyone already, i feel like the kid who moved to a new high school his senior year. i don't think i will ever feel completely comfortable on this board again. there's too much on it. and i don't think it is a matter of not having enough time, it is a matter of not really caring to devote that much time to posting message board trivia. but i miss it. i miss the exclusivity, i miss being that intensely current on anything film, the intelligent discussions, i don't know, the old board made me feel smart. it made me feel that i knew everything there is to know about film because the other users were so involved in it. but i guess knowing everything there is to know about film is a lost cause. right? am i better suited spending my time and eye sight reading a good book?
- sexterossa. anyone notice i had to change the spelling of my name from sexterrosa to sexterossa. no of course not. but i was so uncontrollably excited and impatient upon finding this board to register that i registered as under 13. that excitment has developed into melancholy. and it's only been five minutes.
give it some time... maybe youll grow to love it

we were all spoiled, and you should know that you'll never, ever find a place like that again. i had the same feelings to start with, which is why the ptamb was nice for me to transition with

most of the admins have agreed that yabbse has a visual charm to it that no other board will touch, and although yabbse was xixax's first choice, he chose phpbb because of the flexibility of the database or something, and the fact that it could hold so many users and posts without getting really slow
oh, and many of you may remember this haunting message
(https://xixax.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fptanderson.planet1337.com%2Fmessage.jpg&hash=584719a5e59a0d567d4b75054a079474ebea6c1e)
I had some serious regrets for not making Xixax yabbse at first, but now that the board has grown to nearly 30,000 posts, I'm not so sad about it. Xixax, in its current state, is pretty darn snappy with response times. Yabbse at this same stage would have been 2, maybe 2.5 times slower at page loads.
So, I can cope.
i never heard about this sphinx board. why did it not work?

I think it has something to do with his bandwidth limit and the fact that we were using it all
