League of Extrodinary Gents I'll pass on, but League of Extrodinary Fuckos... bring it on.

I think we should change this sites name to League of Extrodinary Fuckos.

Brilliant.

Why must it be about classic books and a washed up Bond?

There is no way this movie will be innovative or mindblowing...just a "hey guys let's go see a movie!" kind of flick.

I have a better title for it...

The Breeze Of AC

The graphic novel this is "loosely" based on is fucking fantastic. Lots of depth and it's actually more of a character study than anything else. It would appear Hollywood has raped something else of value. Alan Moore is the guy who wrote this and "From Hell" (the graphic novel versions) and both rocked...and both film versions were pretty big fucking losses.

If it weren't for the millions of dollars, I would suggest that Alan Moore stop selling his work to the movies.  As it is, more power to him and Stephen Norrington sucks donkey choads in Tijuana titty bars.
Title: LXG

Wow, it's late.  I got back from a late screening, so I'll keep this really short.

I fucking loved this movie.  I'm giddy with how pleasantly surprised I am. Everything about it was fucking great.  Best mainstream Hollywood production I've seen in 2003, that's for sure.  Nothing's topped it.  No X2, no Hulk, no T3 (heh).

While the story was a departure from the first comic, it still retained its heart through the characters (the originals, though the new ones were great additions, too) and its mood through the art direction.  Really, really impressive.  The action scenes were...unbelievable.  It's a huge thanks to the editor of this film, who just fucking nailed it.  He fucking aced it.

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the way they handled Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.  Oh God.  So realistic.  None of that CG shit, at least not in the closeups and the medium shots.  The wider ones and his movement shots, yes.  But handled very impressively.

I really can't say enough about this film.  I really can't.  I was blown the fuck away.  The VERY VERY end, like the last 30 secs, is the only thing I'm iffy about.  The preceding conclusion was like.....man.  If they ended where they could have, I would have asked my friend sitting next to me to see if someone was down there sucking my dick it was so good.

Even the structure, which was weird, kept things moving.  I loved that.  And the characters.  You really can't say enough about the characters.  Just a fucking pile of aces.  Even Tom Sawyer.  At first I thought, oh great, they brought in an "American" so audiences could relate, but I was quickly dispelled.  Everyone here was frought with their own nuances, their own stories.  I was greatly impressed.  That's the end of this tirade.

Oh yeah - read the trade, if you haven't.  It's an incredible story, and the characters obviously get much more attention, making it quite memorable.  The writing is fantastic, and this is coming from someone who *didn't* like Alan Moore's Watchmen, so there's no Moore bias here.

Wow, that sure is surprising. It would actually really suck if it turns out to be a decent movie since they obviously had NO idea how to fucking market it. The trailers are complete shit and I would have no idea what it was about if I hadn't done my own research and checked it out.

I'm not expecting to like it much at all. I'll see it and hope for the best, but I don't have much confidence in it. I really really wish they'd stayed true to graphic novel. Also, I'd like to remake From Hell someday and retain the brilliant portrayal of William Gull from the comic. Which reminds me that I have something I want to post in the Mason thread.

yeah its true that they dont have a clue how to market it, (is it LXG, or The League, or The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen?)  but, i think thats just the problem that it's competing in a heavily heavily fucking crowded summer with 16 other sequels, comic book/video game movies, and things with built in audiences.  LXG is not a graphic novel that many people are aware of, and they are going to have to try like hell to convince anyone to spend their money on this, instead of the fucking 1000 other super actionadventure flicks out there this summer.  the previews have been okay, but i am looking forward to seeing it soon.  i've heard positive and negative word of mouth, so i'll see for myself.

It's rare for me to get as excited as I did about a film like that.  The trailers couldn't sell it, and I knew it'd be different from the comic, so I hoped for the best and got much more than that.

Damn, why don't I find out about these graphic novels until a movie adaptation is made?  I didn't know "From Hell" was a GN until a friend showed it to me a few months back, and I hadn't even heard of the LXG one.

Ghost World too, by the way.

I just saw LXG, not too disapointed, since I wasn't expecting anything. I knew they would butcher the graphic novel, and they did, so I was not shocked in anyway. Decent action movie, better than T3 in many ways. Still, Alan Moore should be more demanding when he sells his stuff, like requesting a director that did not direct Blade and a scenario writer that has at least one decent movie in his résumé.

I just saw it and I agree fully... the concept was great, the characters had potential, the time period is one i love to see movies about, but it just didn't click with me.

just got back from a league/badboys2 double feature, (cause i'm po!)  so, lets see.  i liked both.  but didnt love either.  i loved the characters in league, and such great source material to work from, i loved the look of it, the special effects were good.  the designs were cool.  shane wests character did bug me a little bit, (okay, A LOT. but i could deal with it).  i even loved the opening 30 minutes or so. the first two action sequences (in africa, and in dorian grays place), i thought were great.  i was really excited for the rest of it.  but somewhere through the middle the story got a bit lost on me, and then some of the rest seemed forced.  but, i think maybe now, that i know what it is, i could rewatch it and maybe like it even better.  i would give it a B-.  may not be anyone elses taste, but i get jazzed up at some of these things.  basically, this movie is not going to convince anyone who doesnt want to see it, of otherwise.  but if it seems like something you'll like, you probably will.

I just saw an ad quoting : "Connery saves the day !"

Isn't that like admitting your movie is bad, but Connery is not ?! Those fuckos...

This film is really not that bad. In fact, it could have been saved. I had a problem with the editing. The action scenes were cut too quick that it disoriented and distracted from what was going one. And being that there were five of them, it would get you into one character then cut away. There were also some bad lines of dialogue. Overall it was enjoyable, but not much to think about afterwards.

Did anyone else burst out laughing at this topic title?

Or was it a combination of 6 cups of coffee and sleep deprivation?

Nobody knows...

Anyway I have no interest in this movie. My sister might because Shane West is in it. She is fourteen. Forgive her.

It's spelled "F-u-c-k-o-s" not "G-e-n-t-l-e-m-e-n"
