Title: Movies you're ashamed to admit you HAVE seen
Post by: Xixax on January 22, 2003, 05:16:30 PM
BonBon made a great post about movies you haven't seen yet.

Now, for the flip side... How about movies you HAVE seen that you would never admit to. Guilty pleasure, or a plain old mistake...

Jurassic Park 3 (Wife made me do it)
Big Fat Liar (that Amanda Bynes is some hot jailbait)

I was just a production assistant.  I worked the last season they did called "wild force".  I would probably be working this season too except Disney bought the show and moved it to New Zealand. Actually me and my roommate just made a short film about us being the last two p.a.'s that worked for the power rangers n the U.S.  We will definatey be putting it on this web site in the next week or so.

Gordon Directing Olsen Twins' New York Minute

What a Girl Wants helmer Dennie Gordon has signed on to direct the Olsen Twins film New York Minute for Warner Bros. Pictures, reports Variety.

The film, written by Emily Fox, is an action-adventure comedy set in New York that takes place over a 24-hour time period. It is expected to start shooting in July in Toronto and New York.

Fraternal twins Mary-Kate and Ashley shot to fame in the hit TV series Full House in 1987. They have produced and starred in about 12 straight-to-video movies and about 25 straight-to-video shortform shows and five TV movies.

The twins also operate the leading girls retail franchise in the U.S. under the Mary-Kate and Ashley brand, which in 2002 grossed just shy of $1 billion.

Not all of us...

j/k...you know I had to get you back for seeing All the Real Girls first and rubbing it in my face.

But yeah, I've been wondering...how old are the olsen twins? They might be a year or two older than me actually. Cause they're definitely hot...Hilary Duff is too...how old is she?

Anyway...back to the topic...I think there are probably too many movies that I'm ashamed I ever saw. Everyone I come up with I can make an excuse for seeing...like Bubble Boy for instance, it was the first movie I ever saw Jake Gyllehaal in, who is one of my favorite actors today. Or the Joel Schumacher batman movies...they might be horrible now...but when I was younger I remember enjoying them a little bit...just not as much as I loved (and still love today) the Burton ones. So, I've been trying to think of some REALLY extra terrible ones that don't have any redeeming qualities that I have ALWAYS hated. This is all I came up with...

armageddon
bats
freddy got fingered
mimic
pearl harbor
ringmaster
secretary
toys (used to scare the fuck out of me)

They're are probably a lot more that I forgot. I probably made an effort to forget about them. Toys and Armageddon are unforgettable though...seriously, wow.

A previous poster mentioned he saw B. Monkey and XXX expressly to see Asia Argento.  Me too.  I also watched New Rose Hotel and Scarlet Diva.

I saw Sweetest Thing merely because it featured Cameron Diaz, Selma Blair and Parker Posey in the same movie.

I have been known to see movies I otherwise wouldn't see just because some hot actress is featured.  Why else would I bother with Abandon, which features Katie Holmes and Zooey Deschanel?  Why would I be sitting in a theater watching Scream 3 unless Neve Campbell and Parker Posey were featured?  And so on.

i saw jurassic park 3. i wasn't disappointed or ashamed, because i knew what to expect and got what i paid for [dollar cinema]. not a terrible way to waste a wednesday afternoon.

i do, however, regret paying to see armageddon. this was probably the last movie where i threw caution to the wind. i knew it might be bad, but i told myself that it should be at least fun. boy was i fucking wrong.

but, as for the most humiliating thing i've ever paid to see...

ninja turtles 3. and i was thirteen fucking years old. or something like that. i paid to see ninja turtles. THREE!

it pisses me off when people judge a film like home alone based on artistic merit. if you go watch a film like home alone and expect THE GRAND ILLUSION, youre a fucking idiot. when i watch a film, i judge it by it's intentions: if a film is an ACTION film, does it succeed at being an ACTION film? If a film's a family film, does it succeed in being that... home alone is one of the greatest family films, a hell a lot better than many family films made today -- i think it'll go down in history and loved for years to come, just a like A CHRISTMAS STORY. i hate people that go to an action film like THE ROCK and start ripping on micheal bay because he's not BERGMAN. NO HES NOT -- YOURE RIGHT. Hes not trying to change the world. hes trying to make an action film. I feel the THE ROCK is a very entertaining action film, will it change the world? NO -- because that is not it's intention.

I caught 20 minutes of Kung Pow on tv and was surprised. Sure, what I saw was pretty bad, but for a bad movie, it sure was a ballsy thing in just going for it. Usually a bad movie is conformity to death, but this movie was unique in its still bad taste.

Kung Pow is a master piece in the cinematic world.  Why, just the line uttered by the Master himself "I've got some yellow liquid for your popcorn, and it's not butter..." was spectacular.  I've never seen more depth, more meaning, more profoundity than in the: dog/ fart/ dead dog scene.   I was truely amazed in watching this film.....   The pauses, the silence between the dialogue, the close ups, and then retreats, all within the kung-fu imagery were astounding.... This movie was much better than GHOST.

lol at your small type, Taz.

Probably along those same lines, I caught final 2/3 of Josie and the Pussycats on cable earlier this year and found it mindlessly entertaining. But I would never actually admit that in public.

It was lighthearted in a very "Wayne's World" kind of way...

The comic turns by Parker Posey, Alan Cumming and Carson Daly were quite amusing. And I think playing an airhead suits Tara Reid quite well.

But, again, I would never admit any of this in an online forum or public place....

probably outside of this site, i'm more ashamed to list good movies i've seen to the casual viewer.  i wouldn't go up to a casual acquantence and tell them that i've just seen 'stolen kisses', cause they'd look at me like i was a fool.
but with you guys, it's different and i'm not really sure what i'm ashamed to say that i've seen.  if i see a bad movie, i don't have to be ashamed, i just have to make sure everyone knows i think it was bad.  i guess i could be ashamed to say that i watched 'idle hands' and really liked it....i'm not sure though, does anyone else like this one?

I rented Maid in Manhattan but didn't watch it. The Regret was too big.

I saw Pearl Harbor in the theaters ...I can't turn down a movie I haven't seen if someone is paying.

I guess that's how I ended up sitting through the Passion, as well.

Also, one of my ex-girlfriends had a horrible taste in movies.  Because of this, I had to sit through Darkness Falls, Jeepers Creepers, It, Final Destination 1 and 2 (if the saving grace of a movie is "The deaths are prety cool" then you know it's not too great).

I re-read the first three pages and think I've got that beat...

I've seen about 90% of those listed. Even own some.

I don't feel dirty at all.
