I just watched the trilogy again. It's been a while. In any case, I haven't watched it since I really got into film. They really are good films. In some ways a bit cheesy, but in acceptable amounts. I think these films can qualify as three of the best comedies of all time. I could be biaised, though. As I recall, Back to the Future part II is the first film I ever saw in a movie theatre.
Yeah I love the trilogy, mostly the first and second, but Im a sucker for anything that screams of 80s and early 90s... if only it had more neon clothes and arcade games. There is something about my connection with being a kid and seeing the movie and going to the Universal backlot tour and seeing the set that makes me love these movies more now then I did then,
i shot a movie on the bttf set when i went to NYFA, and the tram would come by every 5 mins and say the same thing, over and over and over again. it was annoying but funny because i memorized the script and screamed the lines before the tour guide could.
Marty McFly rules. heh heh heh.
"why dont you make like a tree and get out of here "
i thought that was funny when i was a little kid and i still think its funny i may always find that funny
And why are there manure trucks everywhere? The Hell. But its just so perfect. LOL.

You should have made a movie about doing something on the BTTF set and having trams go by, seems interesting
I have one serious issue with BTTF. Why the hell does Marty'd great-grandmother look like his mother (actually played by the same actress)? I mean, think about it! She should look nothing like her, because obviously his mother isn't of the McFly family tree, or else we have some creepy unknown incest thing going on.
I got this at Christmas and have been so stoked to watch it. I'm just waiting for a free weekend where I can do the whole Trilogy. Man, it sits on my dvd shelf, taunting me...
The Johnny B Goode scene in #1 always knocks me out. Love it. Michael J Fox is the man. He's even cool in Teen Wolf.
gonna go back in time
The Penguins - Earth Angel, accompanied by some strings on the Silvestri score + George & Lorraine's first kiss = one of the finest Romantic moments in cinematic history?

that scene inspired me to pick up the guitar.

"this is a blues riff in B" (is that right?)
This is a blues riff in B, watch me for the changes, and eh, try to keep up, ok?

Yes indeed, with the "Are you okey?" sequence after knoching Biff out cold, is right underneath it.
I remember when I was about 12, I started watching only the "cool" movies, like Terminator 2 and Aliens, thinking this Back to the Future stuff was childish and boring. I had actually really loved them ever since my father introduced them to me when I was 7 or something, but now I just categorized them under "boring" and didn't watch them until many years later. I had had this
huge crush, for like 3 years. I was starting to just lock myself in, regretting not making a move, after just finding out she'd been in love with me for a great while, but, alas, not no more. So I started watching through my trusty old VHS's, and boy was I ever surpriced with Back to the Future. It just hit all the right spots, and lumped me up and poured me over. Man I never cried watching a movie like I did that viewing. Every time I see it I can't help but choke up and feel the shivers down my spine at the two moments above. It's my all time favorite.
How's the DVDs? Still need to pick those up...
aw
DVD's are okay. The second and third films are misframed, so you'll need to send them to Universal for replacements with properly framed aspect ratio. The features are loaded, too loaded I'd say. They didn't have room for DTS sound, like the region 2's etc. Also, the cover art isn't as cool as the originals, and the pictures on the discs look cheaply burned in.

I think that was an inside joke between Zemekis and Bob Gale... for the exact reasons you just mentioned.

I thought they changed the discs in the retail versions already! I actually kept the misframed versions because I don't really need to see Marty inflate his sleeves... plus my friend got the fixed discs so I could always watch his.
On a related note, has anyone here seen the porn parody called "Backside to the Future"? It's really funny as hell! They even do a parody of "The Power of Love"... its actually a key higher than the real song... if you want more info about it, type in the title into google and i'm sure you'll find something.
Nick
I thought retailers would dump the crappy versions for the new ones, too, but apparently most consumers didn't give a shit or didn't know enough to warrant a full overhaul. Stores will try selling off the v1's before the v2's come in, which I don't see happening for a long time.

Damn retailers!
I already have all three on VHS, but I've been meaning to get the trilogy on DVD too, jsut to get the commentary and stuff. Is it worth it?

If you're a real BTTF fan (as I am), you would have pre-ordered these babies! The DVDs look great (minus the misframing of course), and the sound is excellent. The extras aren't too bad... the deleted scenes are great too. Too bad they coudln't get any of the Eric Stoltz footage on it though... that would have been some crazy shit to see!
Nick
No kidding. BTTF.com has images of Eric Stoltz in production as Marty, and it's fking hilarious looking. I'm so glad Zemeckis and co. dumped him. Admittedly, part of it was his wardrobe.
if i had to rate a movie that i was a total geek fanboy over, it would have to be Back to the Future. i just fucking love this movie so much.

Does anyone have any information about this? I just picked them up this evening and on a quick runthrough on Google wasn't having any luck finding info on how to get the reframed discs. Any help?

I appreciate it Mac. I read through that and was wondering one other thing. I was told that you'll be able to discern whether or not you bought the corrected version somewhere on the packaging. Any idea where?

From The Digital Bits:
The new packaging will have a "V2" printed near the bottom of the screen format/bar code sticker. This will indicate that the set contains the remastered versions of BTTF II and BTTF III. The same "V2" will also appear on the new discs after the copyright language line.

Also, if you call that 888 number, a live person will answer and they will take care of the cost of shipping and ship you a prepaid envelope to send your discs back in.
Got my replacement discs today. Took about three weeks.
