THIS IS THE GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL MOVIE EVER MADE!!! Yeah?
I like This is Spinal Tap and Sid and Nancy better. What others are the obvious?
I'd put it up there, along with "The Doors," "Tommy," "Stop Making Sense" and "The Buddy Holly Story."
No no... certainly not the greatest... (Almost Famous is highly overrated as a film)... good, but not the greatest.
My vote goes for Phantom of the Paradise
I think it's my favorite beause that era of music is my favorite. Also it just has so much charm to it. Some of my other favs are the "Last Waltz" by Scorsese and "Gimmie Shelter", but those others you guys picked are great too.
I definitely liked this one more after repeated viewings. I think it's a super personal movie for Cameron because of the subject matter.
Imagine how cool it would be to have a film made of your life, and you get to direct it! I'll bet he had a really difficult time balancing personal wants with what was best for the film.
Overall, I think it was great, and I would love to see a director's cut that included a bunch of the ideas that he probably ad to cut for the good of the movie... Not just deleted scenes, but scenes he might have wanted to do that were never filmed.
And I hate to mention this, but I absolutely loved Rock Star.
and lets not forget pink floyd: the wall.

there's a 2hr 40min version that was released recently, perhaps you're referring to that?

No, I have that one, but on the commentary he makes a couple refrences to the 4 hr. version. One of them is near the end when the band finds out the kid told rolling stone everything

No, I have that one,
Thanks for letting us know. You have no idea how many posts would have resulted debating whether you have it or not.

The concerts...in real time.
i'm sure theres probley tons of little odds and ends he shot for the hell of it that he could throw on one, big, final Almost Famous dirs. cut
Easily my favorite Crowe Film, and one of my favorite movies of all time.
Sure a lot of people might think its just sugarcoated fluff, but what the hell, a lot of "classic" movies are just that too. 8)
One of my favorite moves by far, makes you want to grow up in the seventies. He must have seen some really cool stuff, touring and interviewing all those bands. Plus Penny Lane....... DAMN she's hot
Quotemakes you want to grow up in the seventies
Definately. It had that effect on me too. After watching the movie I really wished I lived that era.
This movie is just too fucking good, it's insane. I love it, one of my favorite movies of all-time definitely. There's just so much I love about it...I love Zooey Deschanel and Kate Hudson, I want to marry them....Billy Crudup is fucking hilarious....Jason Lee is awesome....Frances McDormand is cool too.....the whole cast, including even the smallest roles, are amazing...Cameron Crowe's best film definitely...followed by Say Anything. I could watch it everyday.
ooooh Zooey Deschanel :-D :yabbse-tongue:

Jesus...look at those eyes...she is unreal. God, she is just too beautiful. I think I'm going to have to make her my avatar again.

Properly Cleaning the Keyboard*For this task, the computer should be shut down.
*If the keys are
sticky or dirty, a lint free cloth and a spray cleaner especially for computers may be used. If no cleaner is available, warm soapy water will work just as well. Recommend a spray bottle with 2 drops of dish soap and fill the rest with water and a few paper towels.
*Spray cleaner onto the cloth until cloth is moist (or if using soapy water, wring the cloth out completely so no water drips out of the cloth freely), rub the cloth over the keyboard and its keys. Continue this process until the keyboard is satisfactorily cleaned.

Lol, thank you Macguffin...finally something
really useful from you.
Actually, it's weird...I've never been attracted to her in "that" way. I can't really explain why. It's the same with Audrey Tautou. They are just too fucking beautiful or something...I don't know. It's like...they are so beautiful that when I try to look at them sexually...I feel really fucking dirty or something...it's hard to explain.

what the fuck is going on? i just posted that "completely agreed" thing and it came out as butterscotch jones. I'm not just imagining this, am I?
This is weird. It's like that episode of the x-files where mulder turns into that dude from beetlejuice (i think it was that guy. was it that guy?)
wholly shit that is weird, what the fuck man ???
I'm convinced that you have to love Rock and Roll to also love this movie. There's a lot of little things in the film that you won't catch or appreciate unless you're a rock musicphile. Almost Famous is basically a celebration of Rock and Roll and summarizes everything I love about music. Some life Cameron Crowe has had; interviewing bands like Zeppelin in the 70s and now making movies.

Nah, after seeing Boogie Nights I really wanted to be 20 years older.
Nah, after seeing Boogie Nights I really wanted to expose myself!
A fun story that relates tangentially to "Almost Famous" and drops Crowe's name:

seriously tho.
at least HALF of this movie was people just looking at each other and smiling. yeah i've seen it before, just felt sorry for old Cameron's forum, he is totally underrated. the staring in this film is something else.
does the 2hr 40min version explain..... what the fuck was with all the minute-long glances? i guess the whole point is "u had to be there", and u'd understand what they were communicating. it was just bizarre this last time i saw it.
hey , p, you're from aus right? You caught Almost Famous on tv the other night too?
Well, I did, and seeing it for the second time really blew my mind. I understand what you're saying about the "people looking it each other" thing, but to me that just makes the movie all the more intimate.
I dunno, I loved it. It was so weird seeing it again a couple of years after I'd seen it in the cinemas - firstly, I've just done a year of journalism and everything in this movie suddenly makes sense.
"Be honest and brutal. And don't make friends with them".
I'd also like to point out how cool phillip seymour hoffman is playing lester bangs. I fucking cried in the scene towards the end when he's concluding that fugit's made friends with the band.
It wasn't sad - but it was like, I don't know - his whole mythology of him being one of the guys that aren't cool was just so honest and true, it really stuck with me. I'm going to have to look his dialogue up. Brilliant stuff.
And his deep, growling, grating voice, so scratched it almost hurts.
sigh, yeah I just found the kick arse dialogue.
INT. LESTER BANGS' BEDROOM -- NIGHT
Crazy jazz is playing. Lester Bangs on the phone.
LESTER BANGS
Aw, man. You made friends with them!
See, friendship is the booze they feed
you. They want you to get drunk on
feeling like you belong.
INTERCUT:
INT. ROLLING STONE -- NIGHT
William in the empty Rolling Stone office.
WILLIAM
(ruefully)
Well, it was fun.
LESTER BANGS
They make you feel cool. And hey. I
met you. You are not "cool."
WILLIAM
I know. Even when I though I was, I
knew I wasn't.
LESTER BANGS
That's because we are uncool! And
while women will always be a problem for
guys like us, most of the great art in
the world is about that very problem.
Good-looking people have no spine!
Their art never lasts! They get the
girls, but we're smarter.
WILLIAM
I can really see that now.
LESTER BANGS
Yeah, great art is about conflict and
pain and guilt and longing and love
disguised as sex, and sex disguised as
love... and let's face it, you got a
big head start.
WILLIAM
I'm glad you were home.
LESTER BANGS
I'm always home! I'm uncool!
WILLIAM
Me too!
LESTER BANGS
(leveling)
The only true currency in this bankrupt
world if what we share with someone
else when we're uncool.
WILLIAM
(distraught)
I feel better
LESTER
My advice to you. I know you think
those guys are your friends. You want
to be a true friend to them?
William takes a deep breath. Looks at the research cassettes and notebooks. The empty page.
LESTER BANGS
Be honest and unmerciful.
(beat)
You're doing great. Call me later is
you want. I'm always up.
I identify with this so much.
yeah, it's good dialogue. and the sluts are top notch.
too much looking.
yeah thats one of the reasons why this is my favorite movie of all time
Quote from: mister misterAnd his deep, growling, grating voice, so scratched it almost hurts.
He was sick during the filming of it
there needs to be more discussion in the Cameron Crowe thread because he is the shit.
You know brad pit tried out for the part of Russell Hamond and Natalie Portman was considered for Penny Lane
I think that Cameron made the right choices
The Legendary Red-dog (http://www.legendaryreddog.com) is THE reason to watch this movie.
screencap?
just watched this again and it reminded me more than ever of Boogie Nights, in general emotional plot, in events... I'm remembering why this was on my top 10 list when I saw it a year ago.
