I was just reading about the PTA and Brett Ratner rivalry... What's that all about? Do they not get along or something?
And for the people who 'HATE' Brett Ratner, you have to remember he got where he is to today for a reason. And he's a PERSON. A human being not an object you can just dislike without even knowing him. I love Anderson, and there's a line in Magnolia "What can we forgive?". Can you all just forgive Brett Ratner for whatever he has done.

But seriously...
I dont think its founded on much but I was watching the making of on Red Dragon and he really kind of disgusted me in a way, not in a personal sense, but I couldn't get past the location scout section. It just annoyed me when he and Dino De Laurentiis were waving the $$$ about to buy this historical house and blow it up. I didnt think that kind of 'Im Andy Kaufmn and Im from Holloywood' attitude actually existed. I haven't got anything against his films, they're just pretty average affairs, I enjoyed Red Dragon though.
Plus this PTA wannabeness is a bit sad. I mean, I'm sure a lot of young directors look upto/respect PTA but if Ratner really did put 'a prince' next to Downey Sr's name in a movie...well.
You're right though, who are we to criticise.
whatever you say, Brett.
you remind me of the ronald mcdonald clown that pretended to walk into burger king to eat lunch. we all could see that it was a mcdonalds clown, but he was 'undercover,' trying to steal BK's secrets.
Wait, wasn't there a whole huge thread about this?
Just wondering why you think Brett Ratner is a PTA wannabe? Is it things in his work that he ripped off or 'borrowed' from Anderson or what? What's this about putting 'a prince' beside someone's name???
Ratner's just a jealous fucker, its that simple. His films might make more money than PTAs, but he certainly doesn't have the worldwide critical respect and admiration that Paul has and that kills Ratner. He should stop being so whiny.
Quote from: finlayrwhy you think Brett Ratner is a PTA wannabe?
who the ef thinks this? I can't see what would possibly make him a PTA wannabe. there's nothing simular between the two except for a few actors, in my opinion.
and why do I all of sudden want Burger King for dinner? I was craving Mickey D's all day
he seems to have a chip on his shoulder
" Im great too look at me i could be better then pta, let me just cast ed norton and psh and the film geeks will love, it worked for spike WHY NOT ME !!!!!!!!!"
Quote from: tremoloslothWait, wasn't there a whole huge thread about this?
I believe so...it's the one thread that just won't die....for the past 3 months now... :P
what rivalry is finlayr talking about?
A one-sided rivalry is not a rivalry... it's either admiration or jealousy...
It's like Mozart and Salieri...
Im going to try and not judge him as a person, but from the articles I read, he seems very cocky. I havent like ANY of his movies and when he was talking about the I Am Cuba-Boogie Nights connection it seemed more or less like he was saying "so what? big deal? he stole that from IAC"
duckie in all fairness i think you missunderstoof him, what he was getting at was that he brett ratner, was in fact cuba
"
Brett Ratner - I am Cuba "
that part in the interview where he yelled " I got a Cohiba for you to roll" then he wipped out what he called "lil fidel"
very disturbing verydisturbing indeed made all the more odd by the fact that he did this during his interview with golfers digest
Finally,
Do you think PTA cares what the hell Brett says or think or do? Of course not!
So, lets talk about something better

THANKS FOR REDIRECTING, SLOTH
Salieri was cursed with the ear of a first grade music lover and the talent of a third grade composer.
Ratner was blessed with the eye of a third grade movie lover and the talent of a housebrick.
And that's why he's a successful filmmaker yeah??? Y'know, I think some of you people who are bashing Brett Ratner probably wouldn't survive in a business that thrives on relationships and respect. Grow up.
QuoteAnd that's why he's a successful filmmaker yeah???
Yeah, exactly. Most everyone in the industry has the eye of a third grade movie lover and the talent of a housebrick. He fits right on in. Hence the making of the successful films.
And in regards to making into the industry? I have five words for you. Learn to fucking suck dick.
XIXAX - for pretentious arthouse snobs and artsyfartsy coated mainstream whores.
thats why ratner is out there having a real job and making lots of money and not wasting his time here.

Oh yeah, not liking Brett Ratner, that delineates a snob. Man, and having an opinion, too. That's snobby. I guess we should all just become zombified lovers of EVERYTHING film, and never try to distinguish quality.
Come on, I don't care if you like him, but don't rag on somebody for not liking him. That's everybody's come-back here, if you don't like a mainstream director's work, you're a "snob". Please. And I know drug dealers and other such criminals who are "out there, making money", but I wouldn't be proud of that.
yeah, that comment i made was too much and it wasnt cool. i regret typing it and i want to hug you.
but come on, ratner makes classic popcorn entertainment and what he does i pretty much above average and you guys spend so much time hitting him up for having the talent of a brick and being pretentious. i dont really see that. many of you confuses his movies with what he says in interviews.
i think for what his movies are they are good. you dont have sit and overanalyze everything just sit back and enjoy cris tucker slip and hurt his ass.
most will deny it but conair is really great.

Did you just compare filmmaking to drug dealing?
Quote from: Phil Marlowethats why ratner is out there having a real job...
Hahaha, I think I just did.... :)
Actually, lots of it probably IS like drug-dealing. I'm a movie junkie.
I guess my point was that making money does not automatically constitute something good.
I've never even seen a Ratner film, so I have no opinion on him. I just don't think it was fair to call Silver Bullet a snob. And you're perfectly right, Marlowe. We need popcorn movies, too. There are many I hold close to my heart.
I dislike Ratner. I like Jurassic Park. I saw Blue Crush in the cinema. I saw Blue Crush in the cinema...!
"I am not a snob."

Next you're going to tell me you went to McDonalds afterwords...
The burgers are better at HUNGRY JACK'S (http://www.hungryjacks.com.au/).
Of course, the Blue Crush visit was an attempt to get laid. Still, though. No cigar.
why did you put that 'i am not a nob' line in quotes.
you a twisted fuck.

you saw blue crush for the chicks
so what you should of said was
" I was horny "
Ah, yes, but a snob would have chosen chastity.
a snob would shut the hell up and gimme their lunch money.
for all you die-hard Ratner fans...
The "Rush Hour" and "Red Dragon" director talked with About.Com recently about what he's got scheduled next: "I just got the script for Rush Hour 3 today [June 3, 2003], so I'm going to read it tonight after I leave here and if it's good, I'm going to do that. If not, I've got a few other movies that I'm trying to decide which one I'm going to do. I'd love to do Dark Materials. I'm begging for Dark Materials. It's just a hard thing to tackle because it's so much. It's three great books. We're trying to figure it out. Samurai Jack, we're just developing the script. I love the script to Be Cool, which I'm not doing, but I'm interested in. I love it. I don't know, there's so much good stuff around". What can we expect in the third RH flick then? "They're going to New York, Paris and then another third place that I'm not going to give away that's going to be amazing. Basically, they're both fish out of water".
it sounds riveting. what i like about Ratner is his fearlessness to try new things.
:)
Scorsese always talks about getting the Fish Out Of Water scripts. "How come you don't wanna direct the Fish Out Of Water. The're fish out of water, it's great..."
