Premise: An introvert freshman is taken under the wings of two seniors who welcome him to the real world.
It's been a while, but I remember really liking that book. Seems like good casting.
It's been getting good reviews. A lot of people comparing it favorably to John Hughes.
Many people are saying it's their favourite of the year, which is a huge surprise. Anyone seen it yet?
are those people really young? like under 21? maybe they just wish they were.
i saw the trailer before Beasts of the Southern Wild (shocking review coming soon..) and it looked like just a "hey we're so young how cool is that guys?! we got our whole future to ruin, right now we can drive very dangerously because youth DUH!" kind of film.
full of voice overs said in an overly earnest tone that, because it's spoken by some dumb kid, is meant to be profound when it's really just cringe worthy.
Not to my knowledge, they're film related journalists on twitter. Saying it was a huge surprise, that they were not expecting to like it as much as they did.
So I checked imdb for the score and it's at a 8.5 with about 8967 votes (which is pretty huge)
And like you, I thought it might be high due to the age of the voters so I went into the voter rating page: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1659337/ratings (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1659337/ratings)
Majority of the voters are between 18-44 years old.
To be honest I didn't really give it shit when I saw the trailer for this, but who knows, maybe it's actually good
Also Beasts of the Southern Wild is vastly overrated, it's a not-bad film at best. Really surprised that PTA loved it
I saw it and it holds my record for most crying during a film. I really liked it, seeing the story play out on screen helped me understand what's going on in the book a little better and appreciate it more. Best high school movie I've seen in a long, LONG time and definitely in my top ten of that genre.
I do like what Pubrick's takeaway from the trailer was, though.

I relate to Charlie a lot and everything. However, I can't help but see 'Perks' as like what high school would've been like for me if everything turned out PERFECT. I think there is a place for that kind of story to be told, I guess it's encouraging to young outcasts, but I find myself much more drawn to high school movies where everything goes to shit, like it did for me. I want to see more of
those.
Just watched it. I don’t know where that 8.4 on IMDB comes from, this movie is fucking terrible. It feels flat, uninspired, constructed and inauthentic. The dialogue is bad and Logan Lerman's performance consists of making dumb faces and sighing every 5 seconds.
I really thought I was gonna like it, so I guess I had somewhat high expectations. But this movie just didn't deliver in any way, shape or form. The only good things in this movie is it has a good soundtrack and Ezra Miller's performance was great. Also (to my surprise) I really liked Emma Watson in this. I've never really liked the Harry Porter films and never thought much of her, but she was good in this, even when doing a questionable american accent. Paul Rudd could’ve been used better, he didn’t do shit… he was just there.
Anyways, I give it a 6 out of 10. Could've been better... MUCH MUCH better.
P.S: Please, don’t compare this to John Hughes. It’s a bit insulting.
P.S 2: These kids know so much about “good music”, yet they don’t know one of the best and most famous DAVID BOWIE songs!? What the fuck?
