The movie is really great and so much fun, but don't watch the trailer as it's got spoilers. Just go and watch it opening weekend and you won't be sorry.

No it's not.  It's directed by Drew Goddard.
I'm so sick of everyone flipping out about Joss Whedon that I got legitimately mad when I read this.  I know it's a simple mistake, I'm just fucking tired of hearing people worship Whedon (who I actually like, his fans are just ruining everything).

Joss Whedon is overrated.

He's done one good thing and it got canceled.

There, you've been outcranked.

This thing was super fun!  Simultaneously smart and dumb.  Exactly what I wanted!
Sucks that it took so long for this to come out, but I'm hoping this is the start of a great movie summer (appropriate since it's been 20 years since one of the best movie summers ever).

I concur.  This was exactly what I was hoping it would be.  Between this, 21 Jump Street, and even Hunger Games, I'm having more dumb fun at the movies this spring than I have in years.  In a good way!

On a side note, I do feel sorry for all the film professors who will have to spend the next ten years reading the same underwhelming essay about how Cabin in the Woods is an allegory for the relationship between filmmakers and film audiences.  Yes, good for you, you correctly interpreted the blatantly laid-out themes of the film.  Oh, The Director is like the director of the movie?  What a unique and fascinating insight!

so we're the ancients?

i just got around to watching this, i also went into it with my brain off so these blatant themes didn't harsh my buzz. neither did all the things that made no sense. probably the only genuinely good "horror" film i've seen in a long time, certainly one of the more clever ones which is exactly what that genre needs. scream made the self conscious horror film look easy and i think this is the first film since then to have  embodied that spirit and taken it somewhere new.

also kristen connolly is hot.

You can't spell "Ancients" without "Ain't It Cool News".
