Trailer here. (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810196208/trailer)

Release Date: December 30th, 2011 (limited)

Starring: Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent, Alexandra Roach, Olivia Colman, Anthony Head

Directed by: Phyllida Lloyd

Premise: A surprising and intimate portrait of Margaret Thatcher, the first and only female Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. One of the 20th century's most famous and influential women, Thatcher came from nowhere to smash through barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male dominated world.

Good trailer.  Cool poster.  Streep has the accent down, but doesn't really look like Thatcher at all.

This looks pretty bad.  Another Oscar-bait bore.  I don't really feel like being told I should feel compassion for an evil person this holiday season.

Haha, RK. I would be interested in seeing this though. Much as I like Streep, however, I'm not convinced. Seeing her in the trailer ruined any illusion that she could pull it off. She's just doing Julia Child with prosthetic teeth. The poster is neat. That's how the whole film should feel - like it was shot in the 80s.

yeah they should have made thatcher a half woman half london, and then when her advisors say "you might have to lose the big ben.. and maybe a few other buildings too.." she could reply, "i may have buildings growing out the side of my head BUT AARRRHGGHHLGLWRRLL".

Now THAT'S a movie. It'd be like the Elephant Man Goes to Washington. Why has no-one ever done that before?!?!?!

I will bet my eternal soul right here and now that this wins the Best Picture Oscar next year.

That's how goddamn cynical the Academy has made me.

The more I think about, this movie is going to be shit. The concept intrigues me and I do think that there could be a very good movie about Thatcher (despite the fact I detest her), but this is not it. Peter Morgan has spoiled me with his recent history canon. I think the fact that the trailer is all about how she appears and the fact Streep is going a goofy voice and pulling a face which wouldn't be out of place in Austin Powers says it all. This is a film about girl power for Susan Boyle fans: the first female prime minister. Forget the fact the fucked the country and didn't want to relinquish power.

It's a 1 minute trailer, people.  Seriously.

Yes.
After reading all the hate I was finally convinced to see the damn trailer only to find out it's nothing but a teaser with 20 seconds of Meryl Streep in it.

Not much to infer from it.

I can infer that it's the King's Speech of 2011.

Whoever said you can't judge a book by its cover was probably just really bad at judging things.

Yes, it looks bad.
The problem with Streep is that even in the middle of the film equivalent of a Reader's Digest article she usually manages to find a true performance.

On the other hand I'm interested to see if the film is a completely different story than the trailer. Every biopic sells it's main character as an inspirational figure.

I will probably find out when the film comes out on video, though...
