Post by: samsong on October 21, 2011, 06:45:00 PM
saw this at the new york film festival.  i'm a big aki kaurismaki fan.  wasn't that into his last film, but this one's lovely.  highly recommend it.

This was excellent. Kaurismaki  has always seemed like the closest thing we'll ever get to a new Robert Bresson, BUT with a sense of humour. His films are humble and pure in very much the same way as Bresson's. Le Havre being set in France gave it an even stronger Mouchette-like feel at times.
Genuinely sad and genuinely funny. Visually stunning. Good choice of music. Solid Kaurismaki.
