Netflix this lil gem of a movie from down under. Early Eric Bana as the kick boxing boyfriend. Michael Caton kills...reminds me of the dirk diggler story aesthetic wise with the sensibilities of flirting with disaster. Made a killing apparently, too bad no one from the states has heard of it. Thank god I have australian neighbors!

so it's shot on shitty VHS tape, is what you're saying?
yeah this movie is like a national icon.
the ppl behind it are some really talented funny dudes (and a girl) who have made some other good funny stuff that is not really worth mentioning cos it's just too australian i think to really be a hit overseas. the reason eric bana is in this of course is because he used to be a comedian who is best known to everyone here for playing idiots like his character in this film.
anyway there's not much to say about this movie. it's just a david vs goliath kinda story about the little guy and it was a huge hit locally because of the perfect depiction of various australianisms.. it's the same reason that Kath and Kim was huge here but floundered miserably when adapted to an american audience. it's too australian to make sense anywhere else.
this plays well as a formulaic feel good story but doesn't really have much more going for it than Welcome to the Sticks has outside of france.
