This actually was a lot of fun.  It maintains a great level of humor throughout and is peppered with moments of stronger laughter and stuff blows up.  It isn't totally overdone.

In a way, it reminds me of Airplane in terms of spoofing, where it's more of a pastiche than direct spoof, and it doesn't completely overdo jokes.

Yeah, this was really funny. I don't have much else to say about it, though.

I liked the cougar sounds mixed in with every explosion.

What else do you need to say?

This was pretty much terrible. There were a handful of laughs, once were I actually couldn't stop laughing. But the character of MacGruber is so stupid and worthless that the film offers nothing for the audience to care about. He's supposed to be super amazing and terrible simultaneously, but I don't think Will Forte is funny enough to convey both very well. He's not charming. And I was amazed by how much of the film is exposition that just drags on. If it's not about the plot, which is bad anyway, make it about the gags, but even the gags were pretty awful. Most of the jokes fell pretty flat, and even Val Kilmer comes off as overly serious in a movie where he should be somehow remotely funny or fun to watch.

I was incredibly disappointed considering how much I liked Hot Rod. It seems like this character and genre would be ample material for a parody as well as a great throwback to a Hot Shots kind of film, but it just ends up incredibly mediocre.

For what it's worth, Gamblour is wrong.
Forte is perfect.
This is a COMEDY and it's funny.  Being mad that you can't care for the characters is a trap fans of film get themselves in and then they can't let themselves just watch a good old fashioned, ridiculous comedy and laugh and laugh.

(note: Gamby, you know I'm kidding, it wasn't your thing... I just love Forte)

I liked this too.  It wasn't the best thing ever, but it feels like a child I want to protect because everyone hates him/her.

paraphrased from my blog:

It's a dead-on parody of 80's action films with Forte and Wiig stuck in the middle of it.  I actually admired this film a lot for not being a complete spoof, making every character ridiculous, having a slew of cameos, etc.  The rest of the cast play their roles so straight it allows the absurdity of Forte and Wiig to shine.  Yes, it's stupid but it's also hilarious.
