I know there's no trailer, etc, but

Robert Zemeckis is casting a beatles film where I work-- a motion tracked live action/CG yellow submarine.

----------------------------

Walt Disney Studios has confirmed trade reports that Robert Zemeckis will be directing a performance capture 3D adaptation of the 1968 film Yellow Submarine, which will include 16 licensed Beatles songs. Full details are included in the press release below.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE WALT DISNEY STUDIOS, THE BEATLES' APPLE CORPS LTD. , AND OSCAR®-WINNING FILMMAKER ROBERT ZEMECKIS DIVE INTO NEW MAGICAL 3D ADAPTATION OF THE 1968 CLASSIC YELLOW SUBMARINE

Anaheim, California — September 11, 2009 — The Walt Disney Studios has made a deal with Apple Corps Ltd. to develop a new 3D performance capture adaptation of the 1968 hit animated film "Yellow Submarine" to be written and directed by Robert Zemeckis, it was announced today at the D23 Expo by Dick Cook, chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. The film will be created by ImageMovers Digital, Disney's state-of-the-art performance capture animation studio operated in conjunction with Zemeckis and his partners, Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey, who will serve as producers on the project.

For this fantastic new voyage to Pepperland, Zemeckis will incorporate the 16 Beatles songs and recordings from the original motion picture licensed from Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC and EMI-Capitol Records, respectively. The songs include "All Together Now," "All You Need Is Love," "Eleanor Rigby," "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "With A Little Help From My Friends" while combining his unique vision and style to bring this dazzling tale to life.

In making the announcement, Cook said, "This is truly an inspired collaboration, and a wonderful opportunity to revisit one of the most imaginative and memorable musical fantasies of all time. To be working with the amazing folks at Apple Corps, and to have Bob helming the sub is truly as good as it gets. With all those incredible Beatles songs and imagery, the spectacular vision of Bob and his pioneering team at ImageMovers Digital, and a classic adventure full of wit and action, we're sure that moviegoers are going to have a great time on this latest trip to Pepperland."

Zemeckis said, "'Yellow Submarine' is one of the greatest fantasy films of all time, and making this new 3D performance capture movie is a dream come true for me. With the latest advances in technology, we will be able to take moviegoers on a voyage unlike any other, and bring new excitement and dimension to Pepperland and the various sea worlds they encounter. I'm thrilled to be working with the good folks at Apple Corps and our partners at Disney on this epic retelling of one of my all time favorite films."

Jeff Jones, CEO, Apple Corps Ltd., said, "With The Beatles and Walt Disney Studios, we have a partnership between two of the best loved creative entities in the world. We're very excited about the magical fantasy that will result from this collaboration. The marriage of the music of The Beatles with the talent and technical wizardry of Robert Zemeckis and ImageMovers Digital should produce something very special. We look forward to working with Bob and his team on realising his new vision for 'Yellow Submarine'".

The original motion picture (released in the U.S. on November 13, 1968) based on the music of The Beatles was directed by George Dunning and featured the inspired art direction and design of Heinz Edelmann. The movie is set in Pepperland, an undersea paradise inhabited by music lovers who live in peace and harmony and are protected by Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. That is...until they are threatened by the music hating Blue Meanies. It's up to John, Paul, George and Ringo to set off on a magical adventure in their yellow submarine and bring music and harmony back to Pepperland.

If Zemeckis was a real filmmaker, he'd make a CGI Let it Be.

This question gets asked alot around here (or seems to), and there's no real good answer, but:
"what's the fucking point?"

Also, methinks that some people should be satisfied WATCHING films and NOT (re)making them. Fuckers.

Well, obviously, money is the driving point for all this kinds of shit, but I don't really find that to be a "good" answer. It's also incredibly wasteful to keep remaking classic films into their, well, fully retarded bastard offspring. Why not re-release the film, instead? You'd still be cashing in on Beatles Rock Band and NOT flushing hundreds of millions of dollars on a waste of space.

I realize it's pointless to pose these questions here, but i really wish these people would think about things alittle. :ponder:

i don't work for the casting company or the production... and the fact that they've auditioned isn't really giving anything away. i'm just some guy with an educated guess as to why these guys are sitting on the couch... can't get fired for that

What's with Zemeckis and motion capture?  Stop it!

I'm fine with Zemeckis just doing animation. In a twenty year plus span of doing live action movies, I only have real fond memories for Back to the Future. I imagine his batting average would be just as bad with animated movies.

I hope someday motion capture reaches a level where it becomes watchable.  Then all these Zemeckis flicks will have some merit as r&d for useful technology.  Until then I can't bring myself to watch any of these zombie mannequin nightmares.

Animation's fine, but I'm not a big fan of motion capture.  One of the great things about animation is that one can exaggerate movements, gestures, facial features, etc. for effect.

Robert Zemeckis finds Beatles for 'Yellow Submarine'
Source: Hollywood Reporter

It's "all together now" for the cast of Robert Zemeckis' upcoming Beatles feature.

Cary Elwes, Dean Lennox Kelly, Peter Serafinowicz and Adam Campbell are in negotiations to portray the members of the band in "Yellow Submarine," which the director is remaking for Disney.

The original 1968 animated movie was based on the music by the Beatles and featured a storyline wherein a soldier called Old Fred meets up with the Beatles and travels in a yellow submersible to Pepperland. Among the group's encounters are the music-hating Blue Meanies.

As with his recently released "A Christmas Carol," Zemeckis is making the movie using 3D performance-capture technology. The helmer, who also wrote the screenplay, is producing with his Imagemovers Digital partners Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey.

The Beatles tribute band Fab 4 will be motion-captured as the ensemble for the musical performance sequences though -- since actual Beatles music will be utilized (licensed from Sony/ATV and EMI-Capitol Records) -- they won't actually be performing the 16 songs used in the movie.

Kelly, a British actor who is currently on the BBC's "Robin Hood" series, is portraying John Lennon.

Serafinowicz, repped by UTA and Troika in the U.K. and Principato/Young, appeared in "Shaun of the Dead" and in "Couples Retreat." He plays Paul McCartney.

Elwes, who worked with Zemeckis on "A Christmas Carol" and is in the upcoming "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn," will play George Harrison. Elwes is repped by APA and Kritzer Levine Wilkins Griffin Entertainment.

Campbell will be Ringo Starr. His credits include "Epic Movie" and "Date Movie," and he will be seen on NBC's miniseries "Day One." He is repped by ICM and United Agents in the U.K.

Robert Zemeckis doesn't want to do his Yellow Submarine remake anymore
Source: Movie Hole

Though they might be more sound to the idea now that he's got a successful, possible Oscar-winning film of his hands (with "Flight"), the last call Robert Zemeckis got from his old stomping-ground at Disney was one in which the Mouse informed the one-time hitmaker they'd no longer be footing the bill for his mo-cap remake of the Beatle's "Yellow Submarine".

Originally set to lens in December of 2011, with Cary Elwes, Dean Lennox Kelly, Peter Serafinowicz and Adam Campbell playing the fab four, "Yellow Submarine" would've combined the same state-of-the-art special effects Zemeckis had applied to "Beowulf" and "The Polar Express" with 16 original classic Beatles tunes.

Having lost them a pound of money on the flop "Mars Needs Moms", Disney believed Zemeckis's "Submarine" would likely sink them further into the red if they proceeded.

The film was scrapped, as was Disney's production slate with Zemeckis – the experience of "Yellow Submarine" evoking a waning interest in CGI mo-cap movies.

Asked by Total Film magazine whether he might consider trying to get "Yellow Submarine" up sometime later, Zemeckis offered a rather surprising answer. Ostensibly thankful Disney pressed the stop button on the movie, the "Back to the Future" helmer said he's against the idea of a remake now.

"That would have been a great one to bring the Beatles back to life. But it's probably better not to be remade – you're always behind the 8-ball when do you a remake. It gets harder and harder [to make movies]. With the current state of the industry, it's difficult to stay passionate about it. The hardest thing for a filmmaker as he's aging is saying, "How much more of this crap can I take?" It's tough, I can only do it if I have a script to believe in. Like Flight".

Obviously the whole "Yellow Submarine" incident at Disney left Zemeckis a little bruised – but not so bruised that he wouldn't show his face at the studio again, he's currently developing a "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" sequel with the shingle.
