i'm shocked there's no thread for this. maybe i just haven't searched properly. in less than 24 hours i have watched this movie two and a half times. there's so much GREAT stuff in it and it comes at you so quickly you have no choice. you have to replay it just to begin to understand all the amazing stuff contained within. everyone is brilliant. gandolfini is on a roll. the characters represent a real spectrum of good and neutral and evil without feeling like cut-outs or "representations" as such. everyone is hilarious. it's one of the most quotable movies i've seen in years. it's also deeply disturbing in some ways. incredibly plausible image of how the lower tiers of government work and how ideology can win over truth. easily in my top ten at the end of the year. everyone should see this immediately.

I heard about this a lot on NPR when it came out (and they can really make films sound booooring sometime). But I will definitely check this out now.

I liked this too.  It's so quick, it's hard to keep up with what's going on but frequently hilarious.

It's great.  It's from the producer of I'm Alan Partridge, The Day Today, and Brass Eye.  All sharp, absurd humor.

Yeah: It's so good at what it does that it's almost more depressing than funny.

You guys who have really liked it are aware that it's a spin-off of the TV show The Thick of It, right? You should probably seek that out if you love this, since this is basically just a feature length episode (its only real downside being, in fact, how like a TV show it feels).

i was aware of that thank you. i tried watching it a year ago and couldn't make it but i forced myself because of this movie and it gets great after the first bit of the first ep. and time trumpet and the armando ianucci shows are blissfully hilarious. i disagree this movie feels like a tv show. it's BIGGER and more urgent and about going to WAR and has a massive ensemble cast etc.

the main point of this post:
yet again the Canadian dvd is a fucking massive disappointment. pretty sure the us is the same. i know there are special features including a commentary by ianucci on the british dvd and i really want/need them but can't find anywhere. if anyone knows of where to find them let me know. and if anyone can play british dvds would you mind perhaps distributing the special features? thank you so much in advance.

Yeah, this was a really funny, smart film.  I'm sure real life politics isn't terribly far off from the bumbling clusterfucks that are shown in The Thick of It and In the Loop.

"I can't stand to see a woman bleed from the mouth. It reminds me of that Country & Western music which I cannot abide." - Linton.

That is the funniest thing ever.

this was fantastic.
i was a little put off at first because it looks and feels just like the office in the beginning. but that soon ends. the screenplay is so fucking smart and fast and everyone seems to be right there in the moment in a sort of very urgent way, it's impossible not to feel sucked in. a lot of awesome lines.

About an hour into this, I thought it was almost over, that's how fast it moves. There are many many many many moments in this movie that are great but the thing that makes it just fall short of real greatness is the fact that it's almost too truly rendered. Strangelove is what it is because it's absurd and has horrible implications, but you can't help but laugh in the face of all of that. This very astutely reveals all of the pettiness and idiocy of the inner workings of the government, and it's all very absurd and has horrible implications, but they're real and too on-the-nose, and that is harder to watch and accept, in a way. I think that is what makes this movie truly genius, but it's so accurate that it's not as entertaining as depressing, on the whole. Plus it really moves too fast for its own good towards the end.
