Trailer here. (http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/coldsouls/)
Release Date: August 7th, 2009 (limited)
Starring: Paul Giamatti, David Strathairn, Dina Korzun, Emily Watson, Lauren Ambrose
Directed by: Sophie Barthes
Premise: Paul Giamatti stars as himself, agonizing over his interpretation of "Uncle Vanya." Paralyzed by anxiety, he stumbles upon a solution via a New Yorker article about a high-tech company promising to alleviate suffering by extracting souls.
I think someone watched too many Charlie Kaufman movies.
I agree, but it still looks pretty interesting.
I also agree, but it looks like Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine had a lovechild.
are you kidding me
i felt that should have been prefaced with
'oh come on lois that's more ridiculous than the time that paul giamatti thought he was charlie kaufman'
anyone see the trailer for this flick? wow i didn't think someone could actually rip off eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, adaptation and being john malchovich in the same film but it's actually happened:

it appears to even be shot like those movies, same hand held realism in an absurdist narrative... and the poster also screams BJM. it's about paul giamatti who plays himself (Adaptation/BJM) and decides to store his soul with a private company that does that sort of thing (ESSM). then at some point he decides he wants it back, and of course the company has lost his soul.
this film screams fangboy/girl to me. it reminds me just after pulp fiction came out and all copycats that followed suit.

i stopped watching this piece of shit film after 20 minutes, so i just skipped to the 'important' story points and the familiarity was so obscene. without having seen any of the transformers movies, i'm pretty sure at least your brain doesn't become numb while you're watching them. anyone managed to see the entire thing?
edit: i might have to eat my words about that transformers thing, but what i'm saying is... at least some cgi nerds worked their asses off in transformers to make the robots happen. in cold souls even the production design is unbelievable sterile and boring.
I complete forgot this was a movie that existed.
now that i've seen the film, i gotta take back what i said. it's not a memorable film in the long run but it wasn't nearly as bad as i had feared. there are actually some really great scenes, especially paul g. delivering the same stage production with different souls, showed his range quite well.
