I'm just about to start work on adapting a short story of mine into a silent movie, and I was wondering what the drill is when it comes to the writing the dialogue (ie: intertitles)...

i would assume that you'd write it the same as in a talking picture. are you going to have the actors actually speak the words, so there lips will be moving and then we'll see the text at teh bottom. if thats the case, write it as a normal screenplay.

The format I have seen used is to write the dialogue that will be seen onscreen and put it in "quotations" this conotates it is to be read by the audience.

You may write other dialogue that is a response that is shown but not read. (ie... NO!) where you don;t need the title card, but the dialogue should stioll be there on the written page.
