I loved this movie. Its going to be on my top ten of 2009, for sure. Well written, it plays to the strengths of the actors involved. You see why Russel Crowe is a born character actor at heart, with the body of a leading man. Ben Affleck impersonates everything in his character that can be right and wrong with bleeding heart political douchebags both democrat and republican. Rachel doesn't have a lot to do and neither does Robin Wright Penn, but it doesn't matter. Its relevant, its quick, and its even got a few spotty laughs. So, do yourself a favor, see this movie. Its worth it and while not as frenetic as 'crank 2' it has just as much energy. This will be the last great movie set in the newspaper world, possibly the last movie set in the newspaper world. I'm begging you guys, I know you don't take my advice often but this is one really worthwhile. In other words in an often dreary couple of months of films, this is a diamond in the rough. Great great shit.
Good movie, looked like one of these old school investigation movies. What are other good ones, I love this type of stuff ? (Silias I'm looking at you here!)
SPOILERS LIKE REALLY REALLY BIG SPOILER DONT READ WHATEVER YOU DO
Silias, how did the wife know sonia was making 26k a month? how did Crowe connect that with the murder?? I didn't understand this actually...
Pas Rap, the two similar films that are so much like this one are the 'All The Presidents Men' (1976), about the watergate affair with Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford and 'Call Northside 777' (1948), a film noir set where the main character is a newspaper man. As for the secret spoiler question you asked I am not sure. I'll have that answer as soon as I revisit it again on Blu-ray when I purchase it at the beginning of september. It still going in my list of favorite films of 2009.
the tv series was pretty awesome too.
