mmm... the 90's.
i will rent this.
If Ritchie ever wins a lifetime acheivement award (from SpikeTV most likely) it will be very awkward considering he's only ever made one movie...and Swept Away. That being said...I will see this.

i will rent this.
Tom Wilkinson is great and although this is a slight step up from 'revolver' (which I also enjoyed), guy seems to be doing the same type of film, its really quite amazing. He utilizes his actors a bit better here. I want to have sex with thandie newton. I know that came out of left field. Its a serious rental. Check it out.
I have like 40 dvds I have yet to see in my collection. I am going to watch one tonight with a bunch of friends who love Snatch and LockStock. Will they like this ? Is it more Snatch/LockStock or more Revolver( :yabbse-thumbdown:)
(they are not movie buffs and don't know who Guy Ritchie is)
They will seriously enjoy this
I had the feeling Ritchie really, desperately, wants people to compare him to a Red Bull fueled Jean-Pierre Melville while watching this. Which, justifiably, will never fucking happen.
However, I did enjoy this for what it was. I enjoyed that nothing in the film feels cohesive until the last thirty minutes... even though it kept me just interested enough to keep watching, it was still a wholly satisfying conclusion.
Ritchie's use of pop music can be pretty acute, but he's really been going downhill in his soundtrack selections (and in every other regard) for the last seven years... however, he kinda redeemed every silly, useless stylistic film/music match he's made since Snatch by using "Bankrobber" by The Clash to really terrific effect.
And, yeah, Wilkinson further proves he really can do no wrong.
Good so anyway we ended up watching hockey but I'll be watching it soon then
is ritchie worse or am i older? this barely kept my attention.
I never lost interest in the film or the characters, but it all just washed over me as it went along. Ritchie has his niche for slick gangster flicks, so you know what you're in for, and that 'style' was what I felt was missing here. For example, I did like Relover better than this, and I think that was mostly due to the quicker pace and editing.
