I say it counts as a marketing copy. Raging Bull's cover made sense, since that's how the opening credits appear (thematic arguments aside). Rocky's cover has no real reason to be in black and white with the giant red lettering, except to look like Raging Bull. It's not a bad cover though, I don't think.

Also, the Colin Firth image is of noticeably, far lower resolution than the rest of the image, when viewed at poster size. I didn't actually spot this but heard someone mocking it on the radio and had to see for myself.

Off-Topic: Sugimoto's photos are so bad-ass. Having seen a few of them up close, I can safely say that his B&W technique is just ridiculous. I love the theater and the diorama shots.

I look at sites that list new/upcoming DVD releases with cover art pretty regularly, and every now and then I'll see something that looks similar to another cover. H2O popped up on Netflix's instant page. I guess I have a good eye for this. Also, I'm a loser.

At a screening of Fright Night in Austin, Anton Yelchin was given an axe and asked to recreate the poster, which he did. Christopher Mintz-Plasse, drunk/not missing a beat, fulfilled the Colin Ferrell role in the poster by getting on a chair behind Yelchin and staring out at us. He then cracked up and said, "That was so stupid."

That ended up being way more entertaining than the movie.

I don't think we need to see another poster to illustrate the tagline similarity. That's all Matt was pointing out. I can't tell if that second poster has been shopped to match the faces and text more. I think I just hate no country for old men and the new drive posters.

I photoshopped that one to make it another giant fucking face poster. I thought it looked ridiculous enough that people could tell, but I guess not.
