Don't diss BDTH. Any movie starring Queen Latifah is a movie that rocks, in my book.

(yes, even Sphere... up until the part where she dies anyway).

First xXx, and now this statement.

Taz is beginning to lose my benefit of doubt where film taste is concerned.

Film director Martin Scorsese holds his new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as actors Sharon Stone, left, and Joe Pesci look on in Los Angeles, Friday, Feb. 28, 2003. Scorsese, who has received an Oscar nomination for Best Director for his latest film 'Gangs of New York,' directed Stone and Pesci in the 1995 film 'Casino.'

Martin Scorsese Gets Star on Walk of Fame

LOS ANGELES - Martin Scorsese, a director known for chronicling the "Mean Streets" of New York, found kinder sentiment on a Hollywood sidewalk Friday.

The "Gangs of New York" filmmaker received the 2,217th star on the show-business neighborhood's Walk of Fame, joining recent honorees such as comedian Drew Carey, actress Nicole Kidman and fellow director Steven Spielberg.

Scorsese, 60, who was raised in the Little Italy neighborhood of New York City, is best known for his films "Mean Streets" (1973), "Taxi Driver" (1976), "Raging Bull" (1980), "Goodfellas" (1990) and "Cape Fear" (1991).

He said he was honored to have his name placed on the same walkway as many historic directors, writers and performers.

"Many of these names on the Walk of Fame bloom larger than life. They created the grammar of cinema," Scorsese said at the ceremony, which took place outside the Kodak Theatre, home of the Oscar ceremony.

Among those in attendance were his "Goodfellas" star Joe Pesci and "Casino" actress Sharon Stone. Scorsese was also set to receive a lifetime achievement honor Saturday at the Directors Guild Awards, where he was also nominated in the competitive category for his work on "Gangs of New York."
"Don't think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it's good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art." - Andy Warhol

who can resist oscar buzz.

[regarding Martin Scorsese for best director] "The backlash has begun, and Academy members are said to be steamed about Miramax's overly aggressive campaign on Marty's behalf. Best Director? Advantage: Rob Marshall."

I'm glad Scorsese didn't win, Gangs is a very overrated film IMO. That said, I'm a big fan of his work and I think that previously he has been robbed, just not this time. I actually thought he might get a sympathy nod, but it just wasn't ment to be..

It would have been stupid to have Gangs lose in every category except Best director- that doesn't make any sense. "well marty, we hated your movie but here's your oscar anyway, sorry about all those years you should of won but didn't, congrats." nahh. what's fucked up though is that the camera was on him the entire fucking night- it was a big tease, I was sure he was going to win.
Shows he's got some class- he stood up and clapped for Roman Polanski's win and Adrian Brody's. Ahh well, maybe The Aviator...

Finger's crossed for 'The Aviator'.
But god knows what's gonna happen for Marty. I remember when I saw the first trailer for 'Gangs' and thinking 'this film is gonna cleanup on Oscar night' and 'There's 2003's Best Picture right there'.
Oh well. Films with high expectations always get more negatives than films we knew were gonna be shit from the get-go (I'm still pretty stunned that 'Gangs' got zip).
I hope he gets an Oscar eventually, he deserves several.

Quote from: tommy_boththe screenplay categories aren't thát bad usually... but I changed my mind since this year the UGLIEST movie ever was nominated instead of P-DL: My Big Fat Greekwedding   fuck the academy , they just suck , quote]

I wasn't suprised that PDL wasn't nominated, I was surprised "About schmidt" didn't get nominated.
