just out of curiosity: how do you "make it" as a hollywood assistant -- is the book talking about being a successful assistant. or is it talking about using your assistant position to climb the ladder?
...your excuses are your own...

i found out that 8 1/2 and Contempt were released the same year. i wonder if either director had knowledge of what the other was doing?
I am Torgo. I take care of the place while the Master is away.

DAY FOR NIGHT!!!!!!!!!! Exactly what it's like to be on set. Perfect film.

But 8 1/2 is by far the best movie about a movie.
Those who say that the totalitarian state of the Soviet Union was not "real" Marxism also cannot admit that one simple feature of Marxism makes totalitarianism necessary:  the rejection of civil society. Since civil society is the sphere of private activity, its abolition and replacement by political society means that nothing private remains. That is already the essence of totalitarianism; and the moralistic practice of the trendy Left, which regards everything as political and sometimes reveals its hostility to free speech, does nothing to contradict this implication.

When those who hated capital and consumption (and Jews) in the 20th century murdered some hundred million people, and the poster children for the struggle against international capitalism and America are now fanatical Islamic terrorists, this puts recent enthusiasts in an awkward position. Most of them are too dense and shameless to appreciate it, and far too many are taken in by the moralistic and paternalistic rhetoric of the Left.

Quote from: ShanghaiOrangeSigur, you're talking about Living In Oblivion.

Other good ones: 8 1/2, Adaptation., State and Main, Barton Fink

State and Main was awful. Not a second of that movie did I find entertaining, clever or funny.

what about the part when the car flips over and alec baldwin gets out and goes, "well that happened." hehehe.

Quote from: cowboykurtisthe best part in AND GOD SPOKE, is when jesus Moses returns from the burning bush with a frosty new beverage from god: coca-cola. is that film on dvd? i cant find it anywhere. i original saw AND GOD SPOKE on laser disc and have beening looking for it on dvd ever since.

Came out on DVD this past Tuesday. If you have not seen this, it's very funny. Call it a cross between Project Greenlight and Living In Oblivion. Can't go wrong with Lou Ferrigno as Cain and Andy Dick as Abel.

Only $7.97 here.

Don't forget Shadow of the Vampire
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free, silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands, with all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves, let me forget about today until tomorrow.

Christopher Nolan's directive was clear to everyone in the cast and crew: Use CGI only as a last resort.

I always loved Stardust Memories, which I think is a film whith some of the most beautiful shots ever put on screen.... no, I'm not exagerating. And it's probably the real movie about its filmmaker, 'cause although he denies it, it seem really a movie about Woody Allen

perhaps you could add a touch of crimes and misdemeanors to that sensibility, in an odd way

hollywood ending if nobodys mentioned it is about making movies.  and celebrity is about writing one.  as long as we're talking about woody allen.

Is this decent?
