I'm sure it's been discussed before in the deep recesses of other threads, but I just now stumbled upon the theory that Shasta -- after the initial appearance -- is dead and/or just a figment of Doc's imagination. Definitely something I'll watch more closely for in subsequent viewings.

Just started watching SURVIVOR with my gf as the sort of mind-numbing show to end out nights with. Season 7 first, and onto Season 4 now. Boston Rob made for a great villain. I am so frustrated all through season 4, watching the more like-able and empathetic people get eliminated while Boston Rob and Sean get to stay. But I don't expect them to win so it's for nothing.

Season 7 was a lot of fun thanks to Rupert and Lill being oddballs running a cult. I wonder for real if there's any essays or papers out there studying the social dynamics found through these seasons, cult of personality seems to reign.
 
One thing that's keeping me hooked is the engineering of the challenges. Growing up, I didn't really get the feat of production some of the challenges accomplish. Now having been part of shoots I feel a respect for what must have been an intense schedule in the sun and water for everyone working the show, and pure fascination with the design of some of the puzzles and challenge courses. A tapestry puzzle, a huge ball maze everyone controls by the corners.

Seems like in the earlier season the camplife was tougher on the contestants right? All the time I'm wondering how they insured these contestants while they hang out in waterfalls or try to scale trees by themselves.

Very interesting. She was also involved with Licorice Pizza and Inherent Vice but also, interestingly, has a lot of experience with effects-heavy movies.

Supervising art director Andrew Max Cahn has also worked on a number of big effects/big CGI films.

A fun night out at the movies. It has a stellar cast. Unfortuantely I didn't love any one piece of this trilogy. A De Palma inspired 80s flick ought to be easy-gravy to my tastes, but Ti doesn't have the gall or punch to leave a mark.

The Alamo Drafthouse played the RELAX Frankie Goes to Hollywood music video and it had people more squeamish than any of MaXXXine's scenes. There's a titillation that Ti West is afraid of, or has no interest in. One could argue that, considering House of the Devil and The Innkeepers, he has a sense and purpose toward restraint.

I would say, I ache for movies that are as confrontational as they are entertaining. MaXXXine feels more akin to the pastiche work of Edgar Wright than the sexy metalove of contemporary genre fare like KNIFE + HEART.
