theres a movie equivalent topic for this, where you can share stories about actors and directors and such, so who else has gotten to meet some of their musical idols or even hang out with them? (i personally have an obsession of getting my cds signed.) so lets hear some stories?
i think i once spotted zack de la rocha but i was afraid that he would preach me so i didn't confront him.
My buddy who is -- and I'm not kidding -- the BIGGEST Oasis fan ever, has a great Noel Gallagher story. He lives in Canada, yet he was there at Wembley a couple years ago (he's actually in the dvd of Familiar To Millions -- front row!), as well as the Vegas gig with the Black Crowes, and the 10 Years Of Noise And Confusion shows all over England. Of course, among many others. He owns every bootleg, etc.
So, last year he took a trip to New York for the latest tour (he saw both shows). At the 2nd show, he's waiting outside for hours, Oasis' limo pulls out, and the Brothers exit. Somehow (he can't remember), amidst all the pushing, he finds himself over the gate, past the security, right next to Noel. They look at each other, saying nothing, then my buddy just leans in and hugs him, says "thank you for the music" or something, and shakes his hand. He said Noel looked so fucking unimpressed (probably at his security). Then my buddy got yanked back into the crowd. He was glad he hugged Noel and not Liam, because "Liam probably would've punched (him) out".
He also met and got his picture with Soundtrack Of Our Lives and The Music.
I met Lopez, Mendez, and Peter from Opeth (drums, bass, and 2nd guitar respectively) and I have a picture on the first page of the Opeth thread with me and Lopez. They're really nice and Lopez kept asking everyone if they could score him some weed

my musical taste has varied since high school, so there is a range of people on there. i have a lot of signed cds, a few posters, and even went to go to a bar with John and Leroy from WILCO which was my crowning nerdy achievement since i am in love with them.
well...fuck you
wow, you really DID run out of ways to agree with me. yeah im a prick, but pretty much you can meet just about anybody if you hang out afterwards by whatever exit of the club you are seeing them at. i almost met the WU TANG CLAN but it was like 3 in the morning and they were getting into their many cars. they did walk right past me however.
I've smoked weed with the Eels. They shared me and my buddy's weed and we shared their beers. It was a beautiful evening. From that evening was born the song "They smoked our weed! We drank their beer!"
Also met Mum at a gig in Toronto: they were just as sweet as their music suggests they should be. They thought they'd run out of albums to sell and sign when my friend was the next/last in the queue, so they told us to wait around in the bar. They came out and gave us a free album. Pretty damn cool. Beautiful, beautiful little Icelandic pixie twins... Ahhhh...
I've talked to the singer of Sigur Rós a couple of times. We are related.
That's just about it......
related in the way that all humans are 'related'? or like, they're your dads?
grand cousin baby!

Lol, "thank you for the music"...that is fucking hilarious. Seriously, that is really great, it sounds like something out of Almost Famous or something...what a great great funny moment.
I went to a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live concert when I was very young and although I did not meet them there, I did meet them some years later at disney world. That's the most I can brag about.

Um, lemme think. This was right around the time that Moon & Antarctica came out. They were in town and the editor of the magazine I write for invited them to a Halloween party we were all going to. They were all dressed as bums and/or hippies. They were nice guys, seemed tired and disoriented, though.
A few months after that, I caught a secret show of theirs as SXSW. I called the bass player by the wrong name, but he was cool about it. Nice guys. Honestly, I never really met Isaac or talked to him.
I met David Poe after a show at a club once. He showed me how to play his song "Reunion", but I've since forgotten.
I would give up to and including three fingers or toes to meet Liz Phair. Seriously, if I lived near her, I would be stalking her right now.

Hilariously, I met Liz Phair while working at a Barnes & Noble. She'd just finished selecting a few choice titles from our Self-Improvement section.
She was shorter than I'd expected and not quite as hot.

I won't give the long list of who I've met (mostly old jazz musicians). But I will say that if Isaac Hayes walked into a crowded restaurant and saw me, he would no doubt sit down for a chat.
That's gangster.

THis is kind of a funny story (one of my friends was left in stitches after I told him, but he was really high at the time) I went to a movie with one of my friends, and when we walked out of the theater, there was a big snow storm (this is back around christmas) and several people were having all sorts of trouble getting out of the parking lot, but my friend has a jeep and he drove so we were golden. Anyway, this group of young guys came up to us and introduced themselves as the band A Simple Plan, and said that they needed a ride to there hotel room because their bus couldn't make it over to the theater (they were in town because they had a show at a local club the next day). Well, my friend knew about their show the next day, and because he is an idiot, he thought they meant they would need a ride to their hotel room the next day after their show got out (he is really dumb). Well, my friend just happened to be going out of town the next day, so when they asked for a ride, he said no because he was going to be out of town. In simpler terms, the talk went like this:
A simple plan: (after introducing themselves) Hey, can we get a lift back to our hotel room, we will give you tickets to our show if you could help us out
My friend: no, I am going to be out of town
Basically, it was like my friend was being a sarcastic asshole, and just didn't want to give them a ride. That's the only band i have met i think.

This is definitely funny. I kinda wished ASP just walked off into the snow and were never found as a direct result...
In my youth I was able to meet The Wailers Band, which to a Bob Marley-obsessed person, meant more than anything.
There used to be a big concert in my town each year and I met all sorts of random people there when I was a kid: Billy Joel, Paul Simon (both locals to my town), Kris Kristofferson, Chevy Chase, Colin Powell (weird combo), and my personal favorite, Mr. James Brown, who signed my ticket stub ("I feel good, James Brown"). Good times...
aw
There is a huge portuguese band called Os Delfins and the lead singer, Miguel Ângelo was on the seat in front of me on a plane to Lisbon.
My sister played in a band a while ago...they didn't even record anything.
I met Sum 41 when they were in the Detroit area for the Warped Tour a couple years back (I was only there to see The Dropkick Murphys, I swear!).
Anyway, my friend's sister's friend (Ferris Buller anyone?), who we all went with, her mom worked at the venue and we got "backstage." Since the show was outside, backstage was were all the vans were parked.
Not a fan of their music, but they're cool guys.
Here's my short list:
Sister Hazel
Social Burn
Flickerstick

Yes, but I'm also 6'3" so probably not the best judge of what passes for small, average and large.

wait, are we still talking about hands?
Yes.
Otherwise I would have said, "Nice and supple."
I've met 'The fun Lovin' Criminals'. And does anyone remember 'Spoldge'?
