Should we use IMDB's release dates, first theatrical release dates, or something else?
For example, The Devil and Daniel Johnston was first shown in January '05 at Sundance, but didn't receive a theatrical release until March 31, 2006. Should I count it as a 2005 or a 2006 film?
Yes, in most cases* use the US Theatrical Release Date. The Devil & Daniel Johnston is eligible.
*Army Of Shadows is not eligible.

Hahaha, all right.
Trailers released in 06 for movies released in 07 are eligible, right?

Yes. So if you're thinking of nominating Norbit, you can do so.
Get out of my head, MacGuffin!!!
"I'm SLIDIN'!"
It felt like a test, with all the rules and everything. I really hope I did alright (as in followed the correct procedure).

if anyone else (like me) needs help remembering which trailers came out last year. JoBlo posted a list of 100 trailers from 2006 that might help jog your memory.

Brick is eligible, no? (not the trailer, the movie itself)

Brick is eligible, no? (not the trailer, the movie itself)
Yes. While it ran in some festivals, it had a true theatrical run starting in April 2006.

Our "performance" and "supporting performance" categories have caused quite a bit of confusion in the past. The Xixax Awards define these categories a little differently. Notice that we don't have a "leading" category. In other words, performances are performances, and "supporting" performances should really truly be supporting. A supporting performance in the Xixax Awards is usually smaller than a supporting performance in the Oscars.

i think
Really? I wouldn't think so just because it wasn't originally an animated movie. I don't know, maybe that doesn't mean much though.
it officially is. conceptually it was almost always an animated movie. and it ended up being an animated movie.
I hope a scanner darkly is eligible for best animated. its a sad day when the only animated films the oscars could come up with are aimed primarily to kids. I'm only slightly interested in Monster House just from what others on this board have said about it but it pains me not to be able to vote for Paprika because i probably won't see it for another year!
Cars
Monster House
Happy Feet
A Scanner Darkly....
am I missing any others?

...we will be accepting your ballots.
So get them in!
Shouldn't Abigail Breslin, Adriana Barraza, Rinko Kikuchi, and Jackie Earle Haley be catergorized as supporting roles, not leading?
no.
no, they shouldnt. thats academy politics bullshit.

"Oh, damn! I've got to get my 2007 Xixax Awards Ballot in by Thursday."
we realize that everyone has not had a chance to see every film on their list for 2006, but let us remind you that it is better to vote with a partial ballot of your favorites (so far) then it is to not vote at all. if you only saw 1 movie last year you could nominate that. no excuses!

I just voted for the first time ever, since it was the first year that most of the interesting movies from last year already opened here in Portugal. Even though it's not that many, I really wanted to participate.

Best Film and almost every other category there is (okay, the effects aren't that great, might want to leave that one to Poseidon or whatever you're gonna vote for).
