WELCOME TO THE 2007 XIXAX AWARDS. It's time to nominate!

Send your votes in through PM, following all the rules. The deadline is Thursday February 15th, two weeks from today.

You will notice we have added 2 new categories this year: Best Animated Feature and Best Trailer.  Any trailer released in 2006 is eligible for Best Trailer even if the film has not yet been released.  You should also try to specify Teaser or Trailer if there were several different versions released.

THE RULES:

YOU HAVE TO
1. vote privately:
. . . .If your username begins begins with A-F (or #), send your ballot to MacGuffin (http://xixax.com/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=9)

. . . .If your username begins begins with L-P, send your ballot to picolas (http://xixax.com/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=34)
. . . .If your username begins begins with Q-Z, send your ballot to RegularKarate (http://xixax.com/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=63)
2. copy the form provided below and paste it into your PM
3. only list the movie in each category, not the person who would win (unless it's an acting category)
4. specify the actor and movie (for the acting categories), like this: Actor - "Movie"
5. use the most common title with foreign films (ask if you're not sure)
6. use full titles ("Mission: Impossible III" instead of "MI:III")
7. (for the DVD category) specify the original theatrical release date if there are different versions or remakes
8. nominate titles in alphabetical order
9. title your PM "nominations" (please!)

YOU SHOULD
1. be honest
2. vote from personal opinion (not strategically or by consensus)

YOU CAN'T
1. nominate more than 5 movies per category
2. send more than one ballot
3. vote from different memberships
4. write your nominations with caps lock on
5. nominate publicly

Should we use IMDB's release dates, first theatrical release dates, or something else?

For example, The Devil and Daniel Johnston was first shown in January '05 at Sundance, but didn't receive a theatrical release until March 31, 2006.  Should I count it as a 2005 or a 2006 film?

Yes, in most cases* use the US Theatrical Release Date.  The Devil & Daniel Johnston is eligible.

*Army Of Shadows is not eligible.

if anyone else (like me) needs help remembering which trailers came out last year.  JoBlo posted a list of 100 trailers from 2006 that might help jog your memory.

Yes. While it ran in some festivals, it had a true theatrical run starting in April 2006.

Our "performance" and "supporting performance" categories have caused quite a bit of confusion in the past. The Xixax Awards define these categories a little differently. Notice that we don't have a "leading" category. In other words, performances are performances, and "supporting" performances should really truly be supporting. A supporting performance in the Xixax Awards is usually smaller than a supporting performance in the Oscars.

Really? I wouldn't think so just because it wasn't originally an animated movie. I don't know, maybe that doesn't mean much though.

it officially is. conceptually it was almost always an animated movie. and it ended up being an animated movie.

I hope a scanner darkly is eligible for best animated. its a sad day when the only animated films the oscars could come up with are aimed primarily to kids. I'm only slightly interested in Monster House just from what others on this board have said about it but it pains me not to be able to vote for Paprika because i probably won't see it for another year!
Cars
Monster House
Happy Feet
A Scanner Darkly....
am I missing any others?

we realize that everyone has not had a chance to see every film on their list for 2006, but let us remind you that it is better to vote with a partial ballot of your favorites (so far) then it is to not vote at all.  if you only saw 1 movie last year you could nominate that. no excuses!

I just voted for the first time ever, since it was the first year that most of the interesting movies from last year already opened here in Portugal. Even though it's not that many, I really wanted to participate.

I know it's late, and many americans hated it, but here it goes:

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION:

LADY IN THE WATER
In all categories, including:
Best Movie
Best Director
Best Actor - Paul Giamatti
Best Screenplay

THE BLACK DAHLIA
Best Movie
Best Director
Best Supporting Female Performance - Mia Kirshner
Best Cinematography

MIAMI VICE
Best Movie
Best Director
Best Editing
Best Sound

I guess there's no need to campaign for The Departed, or Babel.

Best Film and almost every other category there is (okay, the effects aren't that great, might want to leave that one to Poseidon or whatever you're gonna vote for).
