Title: 5 of the best cartoons ever coming to DVD
Post by: ShanghaiOrange on July 29, 2003, 10:17:25 PM
OK, listen:

The 1st season of Rocky and Bullwinkle comes out August 5th.

A collection of some of the best Looney Tunes comes out at some point. This includes Duck Dodgers and Duck Amuck, two of the best creations of man ever. :(

Space Ghost: Coast to Coast and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, two of the greatest TV shows ever, come out on November 18.

And the Critic is coming out at some point, too. :(

Also:

Simpsons: 3rd Season comes out August 26th.

Futurama: 2nd Season comes out August 12th.

Family Guy: Volume 2 comes out September 9th.

I need august 26th to get here pronto because of the release of many quality DVDs but escpecially the Simpsons Season 3.  In the past year, my faith in the Simpsons has reached an all time low, because this season's episodes are pure garbage compared to the previous seasons and when compared to other quality shows like south park and curb your enthusiasm, AND because I live in the only city in the world that doesn't show the simpsons in syndication, so I haven't seen a good episode since i watched my season two DVD many many moons ago (on a side note, my friend, who spent the last year in Malta, the third smallest country in the world, an Island just south of Italy, got to see TWO SIMPSONS A DAY on Maltease television! and i saw ZERO PER DAY!)  Also, Aqua Teen on DVD means Aqua Teen marathon which equals AWESOME!  Additionally, the Critic on DVD is like a dream come true in DVD form.  Furthermore, August 26th is Mr Show season three (which is a great thing)

sorry, i forgot about my responsibilities here.  perhaps i found out about it pre-xixax.com (the dark ages), and didnt think to post the news here.  i have 17 VHS tapes they have released of random episodes, that are due to be upgraded to the complete seasons (so you can actually follow the storyline), and i CANT WAIT.

From: http://critic.nohomers.net/

USA Today has reported that The Critic DVD is in the works!  Click here (http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2003-07-15-tv-dvd_x.htm) to read the entire article which contained the following information.

While many beloved series have found a new home on DVD and on viewers' shelves, a few holdouts such as Seinfeld and Northern Exposure remain — but not for long. DVD releases are in the works for both series. They are among the most requested DVDs on Amazon.com. Also in the works: Jon Lovitz's animated The Critic, King of Queens and Barney Miller.

Al Jean (series creator) also leaked this info two months ago but I was not allowed to say anything.  I guess since this report came out it's ok for me to say that this IS official and confirmed to be worked on very soon.

Quote from: SoNowThenANybody hear when South Park Season 3 comes out?

According to tvshowsondvd.com, A tentative date of December 16th has been set for the third season of South Park. Just in time for Christmas, whoo hoo! Of course as you can all see, the date is subject to change. Hopefully it will be out just in time for the Holidays.

Volume 1: Space Ghost Coast-To-Coast
Features 16 episodes and lots of special features on a 2-disc special edition set.
English language, with Eng/Fr/Sp subtitles and CC
$29.98 SRP
Street Date 11/18/03

Volume 2: Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Features 16 episodes and lots of special features on a 2-disc special edition set.
English language, with Eng/Fr/Sp subtitles and CC
$29.98 SRP
Street Date 11/18/03

All information is tentative, and subject to change. But independant sources confirm that a huge marketing campaign is in-the-works pushing the November 18th date, so that's about as firm as you can get.

This is some pretty stellar news, dudes!  I am so stoked!  Pizza dude!

Anyway, I'm in the same boat with Raikus about "The Tick."  Pretty funny show:

Guy in restaurant:  Ticks suck blood.  Do you suck blood?
Tick: Uh, yeah.  I suck blood all the time.
Guy in restaurant: Yeah, right.
Tick: Look! I got a straw right here, pal, you want a demonstration?

I finally checked out the first four episodes of Futurama (god bless Netflix) and that show is the friggin' shit. It's absolutely hilarious, example: I forget the exact instance, but something shocking or unexpected happened, and a brick dropped from behind Bender. I sat there, thinking: he just shit a brick! That's awesome! The humor works on such a different wavelength. I will definitely buy this dvd!

Fuck yes! I had no idea they were releasing those, I never thought they would either.

QuoteSimpsons: 3rd Season comes out August 26th.

Still have to get the 2nd one, of course I'll pick this up in due time.

QuoteFuturama: 2nd Season comes out August 12th.

I can't believe I didn't find out about this till this month! I had no idea they even released a first one, I'm going to have to find a way to get it this week. Definitely one of the best shows ever.

QuoteFamily Guy: Volume 2 comes out September 9th.

This shows looks funny, I've never seen it. A lot of Futurama fans seem to like it, I'll have to check it out. Futurama accounts for about 75% of my stolen jokes in my short films. Need to balance that off a little bit.

He just did.  Hehe.  Such a big fucking grin on my face now!  I can retire those VHSes, though I'll probably keep 'em around, 'cause I've pretty much had even the commericals that go along with the episodes pummeled into my subconscious so much, that I'll always want that as a reference.  Imagine late-night Comedy Central, circa 2000, and commercials advertising stuff such as Best of the 80s CDs; Safety Dance, Call Me, and I Know What Boys Like playing through your head.  But I digress.

Here's a new sig in honor of this fine occasion.

Oh, definitely.  It's funny as it is, but it REALLY excels as a comedy the more and more you know about films.  The more films I watch, the more jokes and references I find, and I still find new stuff every now and then these days.

The Ugly Duckling
Peter and the Wolf
the one where Mickey goes through the mirror and fights a deck of cards
the one with ghosts and a haunted house

i know, lame descriptions, but i have no idea on titles.

The second one is a cartoon from 1937 called "Lonesome Ghosts," and it's great stuff. Mickey, Donald and Goofy as the original Ghostbusters.

I believe the first one might be "Thru the Mirror," but I don't know for sure.

Both "Lonesome Ghosts" and "Thru the Mirror" are among the 25 or so cartoons on a DVD called "Walt Disney Treasures - Mickey Mouse in Living Color." I'm not sure if this is still "in print," (you know how Disney likes to have limited releases  :(   ) so you might have to do a little searching around for it.

As an old-person aside, the reason I remember Lonesome Ghosts so well is that, in the 1970s, there was a groovy toy called the Fisher-Price Movie Viewer. ... You could slide in these yellow plastic cartridges (Lonesome Ghosts was one) and watch cartoons and shorts -- forward or backward, frame by frame -- by turning a crank on the side of the Movie Viewer. It was awesome! You really learned to appreciate the animation, as a kid, by watching the cartoons slowly, frame by frame, to see exactly how much movement took place between each animated cel.

It's EST and you can always record it.

Click on this (http://www.adultswim.com/shows/index.html) if you want to check out the schedule. The newer ATHFs have not been as good as seasons 1 and 2, IMO.

I've heard that they are releasing Harvey Birdman and Sealab, then the next season of spaceghost. Haven't heard anything about the Brak Show release or if there is plans for one. Brak Show to me remains the reason I watch adult swim.

the best part of that episode was the dog with the shady eyes.

anyway, back to the amazing thing that is season 4. it's the first season where every episode has grand stylistic endeavors, and soOO many classic moments. i'm cracking up just thinking about the badly dubbed "Mr Black" in Kamp Krusty, Homer the Heretic, let's relive sum of those moments shall we..

Kids, let me tell you about another so-called "wicked'' guy. He had long
hair and some wild ideas. He didn't always do what other people thought
was right. And that man's name was... I forget. But the point is... I forget
that, too. Marge, you know who I'm talking about.  He used to drive that blue car?
