Heís not unknown, many here know his films but Iím starting this thread based on shoutbox chat in order to promote his work. Heís one of the greatest directors working. He uses space, montage and silence in a unique way that I think is unequalled in the ďsuspenseĒ genre if thatís a thing, but I donít think he can be confined to genre.

Some of the classics which are must-views:

Cure (1997): Beautifully executed murder mystery/personal deconstruction/city symphony



Pulse (2001): sometimes put in the J-horror category but itís more of a metaphysical thing



Tokyo Sonata (2008) : he can do family drama too, and severely outclass something like Squid and the Whale



A new one which I havenít seen but have heard is a good departure from his style:

might as well move this here !

Yeah, I don't trust that info, but it could be a slow-speed 35mm perhaps. Looks like Super 16mm and it's a mystery I will research more once my hiragana moves into katakana.
