the music at the end of the theatrical trailer has been bugging me for a long time. i've scoured every corner of the internet. just now i sent an email to paramount vantage. after that i'm out of ideas.

That's the long and short of it. I got the news a while back but had to get confirmation. And yup, they aren't letting the score in. It was a last minute decision. Enchanted is apparently out as well. And Into the Wild.
I know this story was scooped elsewhere. You can find it on the Envelope's site. I chose not to break it early out of consideration. That's the way it goes. Being first isn't always the most important thing to me. So there you have it.
Here is what I know. The film's score, apparently, referenced other music so that it was considered "diluted." Although it's strange because the movie's end credits is really where the referenced music is, apparently. But the Academy has a long history of doing this sort of thing, particularly where "rock stars" are concerned. It isn't that much of a shock. What is a shock is that the news broke so late in the game. They are a prickly group and they don't seem to really care what other people think about their choices. Many great scores have been deemed ineligible over the years. This doesn't speak to the quality of Greenwood's groundbreaking score, obviously. It will stand on its own and probably go down as one of the all time greats.

Really, who are these people? Why is it that the musical categories at the Oscars are always the ones with the lamest, poorer, boring selections? What's amazing is how predictable they've become in their squareness. Everyone saw this coming. The moment someone comes up with a truly beautiful groundbreaking score for a film, everyone knows THAT will not get a nomination. Instead, the same old tired names keep appearing, year after year, and there's not a more embarrassing moment in the Oscar show than when they give us a sample of the scores and songs that actually made the cut for their each year more and more irrelevant award. Now winning an Oscar doesn't even mean that much of a box office bust, so I don't see the point of them anymore...
