Title: PTA Players
Post by: aclockworkjj on January 09, 2003, 03:40:01 PM
It seems as if the usual PTA players have been very busy lately...O'Rielly in Chicago....Moore in 2 new movies.....and I just saw a trailer for Love Liza w/ Phil Hoffman (which looks really good...btw...it's the first i have heard of it though, anybody know info on this flick?)

So...my question to stir and boggle your minds is....We have seen these actors (and actress) in various roles under PTA...now that they are all trying new things....what do you think about the roles they have chosen and do think PTA brings out the best in these people or are they just good no matter what???

My guess is that they're all just pros. Not to take anything away from Paul, certainly.

But c'mon, for real... If you're good enough to be in a feature film, you're probably a decent actor.

To me, bad acting is most often encountered in those softcore porn movies Cinemax shows. Most everything else - even TV - is usually passable as far as acting goes.

Maybe I'm simplifying things too much. Definitely when someone stands out as doing an awesome job, you notice. But to me, if I don't say "they suck at acting" or "they're great at acting" I don't particularly notice them. I just take it as someone doing their job. They're good, but not phenomenal.

That didn't really answer your question, I know. I'm just rambling.

At least it was a response though....kinda sucks, I think this is a cool little board...too bad it doesn't seem as if too many are here!

I hear ya on doing their job...but all of them have gotten to a point where they can sorta be picky about their work....I am just curious how people feel about the decisions they have made.

I think this is a good thread topic.

But I have to disagree, there is A LOT of bad acting in feature films, and TV. I think the old guy on The Sopranos, forgot his name, but the guy who was on trial, Tony's boss I guess, is a TERRIBLE actor.

Agreed. Every actor on the Sopranos, in my opinion, does a great job. Probably one of the reasons it's one of the best shows on TV at the moment.

ABC has finalized the cast of the pilot for the anti-terrorist action-drama THREAT MATRIX by adding five cast members. Melora Walters (MAGNOLIA) will play Lark, Will Lyman will play Atkins, Kurt Caceres (AMERICAN FAMILY) will play Sutton, Anthony Azizi (24) will play Mo, and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (CROSSING JORDAN) will play Jelani.

philip seymour hoffman is great...julianne moore is great...william h. macy is great...john c. reilly is workmanlike great...philip baker hall, don't need to say anything else...luis guzman another workhorse, not great though....melora waters is very interesting, don't know how well she does without Paul...the point is all the actors that i said are great, Paul didn't make them that way...they are just great at what they do, and Paul is very smart for casting them.

Personally, I'd like to see John C. Reilly get a starring role in something more mainstream (as in NOT "The Good Girl").  Phil Hoffman seems well on his way to the same - I'm more than a little curious as to how "Love Liza" will turn out.

Julianne Moore Forgotten at Revolution

According to Variety, Julianne Moore has signed on to star in Revolution Studios' supernatural thriller The Forgotten, with Joseph Ruben set to direct.

Moore will play Telly Paretta, a grieving mother struggling to cope with the loss of her 8-year-old son. She is stunned when her psychiatrist tells her that she has created eight years of memories of a son she never had. But when she meets a fellow patient who has a similar experience, Telly embarks on a mission to prove her son's existence and her sanity.

The film, which starts shooting before the end of the year, was written by Gerald DiPego. Columbia Pictures will distribute the project next year.

Moore will shoot the Michael Caton-Jones-directed romantic comedy Laws of Attraction opposite Pierce Brosnan in July before making "Forgotten."

Mabye its me, but did anybody else who's seen Adaptation suddenly think of "Donald" Kauffman's "The Three"?

It's you dude.

Hey, wait a minute. The Laws of Attraction? Isn't there a law against films with similar titles being made so soon after one another? (The Rules of Attraction anyone?) God damn unoriginal hollywood shite... the premise seems interesting enough though, plus Moore is in it.

It's interesting how Adam Sandler always gets really talented actors to work with him on his movies after acting opposite them. After he was in "Airheads" with Steve Buscemi, Buscemi subsequently appeared in "Billy Madison", "Big Daddy", and "Mr. Deeds". Now after working with PTA, Sandler apparently has become friends with Luis Guzman and John C. Reilly, because they are in "Anger Management". John Turturro is in Anger Management too, following his hilarious role in Mr. Deeds. So, at this rate, I guess we can expect to see Philip Seymour Hoffman in Sandler's next movie.
