I love The Shining as a book, and i love Kubrick's movie, but King's later adaptation is laughable, even though its closer to the book...

2 obviously terrible adaptations are both versions of lord of the flies. when i read it, it seems like it could translate fairly well to film, but i guess not.

i haven't seen the film version of grapes of wrath, but it is one of my favorite books. someone told me how the movie ends though, and from what i've heard i would say its a lame cop out (but again, i havent seen it, so i have no room to talk).

Lord of the Rings is a pretty good adaptation i think. what i think is so hard for people to understand is that film and novel are so different, even though they seem so similar. its hard to look at a film thats based on a novel we love so much, and ask 'is it a good movie, even if it is different from the book?' and i think LOTR is incredible even in the face of all it has to live up to.

Gamblour.
