Title: New releases that wasted your time (only straight up disses allowed)

ATTN: I watched Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar and that was a waste of time

"The Little Things" was ultimately a waste of time even though it had some cool shots and Denzel was able to make a very bad script sing.

"The Woman In The Window" was a waste of time. Even a script by Tracy Letts and Julianne Moore's performance couldn't elevate this material because the whole thing looked so shitty- direction, cinematography, and production design wise. Both of these movies had a really glossy and overlit HD look to them.

Agree completely about this one.  A quick look at my notes and I would offer

"Coming 2 America".   Ugh.  Just laid there.  (The film and myself.) I remember wincing a lot.  Gave up after not even 10 minutes?

"Happily".  I actually remember almost nothing about this.

"No Sudden Move".  No investment in any of it after a full hour.  Stellar cast, tho.

[This is a good idea for a streaming thread, too.]

This movie iz camp!!!!
Mad absurd, great friendship piece. Took me back to Night at the Roxbury type silliness. Been a while since an American comedy swung this hard for something that could rival Mckay/Apatow goofiness, right? It didn't like blow my mind but, those musical numbers, and the jokes they play with the extras in the background have had me recommending it 'round 'ze bored friend group.

Happily had such a neat conceit but then tripped on its own feet in like act 2. I adored the main characters and not so much the surrounding friend group they're with or its resulting plot.

The Woman in the Window, meme movie. Nearly a De Palma inspired comedy, lol.

I watched Barb and Star on a plane and had a great time. I'd say the opposite of a waste, it was a great way to pass the time.

I really liked the first hour of No Sudden Move but then it kinda wonked out for me.

I'm looking through my log and I can't find one movie in there from this year that I'd say wasted my time. Maybe there are ones I turned off after 10 mins that I'm just not remembering? But I don't know if those would even count for this.

I keep a log, too.  There's so much streaming to keep track of (plus, I have a friend with whom I check in daily to discuss what we've watched (among other things). I strikeout everything I bail on early.

I don't believe that you considered it mad absurd. I'm not calling you a liar I'm calling you a flatterer, and I'm disagreeing with your semantics. I think it was wacky absurd at best, and my point of comparison is, say, Sometimes Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things (https://www.americangenrefilm.com/theatrical-film-catalog/sometimes-aunt-martha-does-dreadful-things/). or, let us say, Tammy and the T-Rex. those leave Barb and Star and Mckay/Apatow in the dust. it's not that none of it is fun, it's that none of it surprises me. nothing comes from out of nowhere and everything human is obvious. it's wrong to think that a comedy itself can't have richer dimensions. a comedy can be just as vital as anything, and I would not categorize Barb and Star as vital

I'm just following a conversation. their friendship is definitely the best part and every now and then they have these really rich tiny moments of friendship that definitely illuminate the entire enterprise

oh you mean the type of thread it is and you're referring to the recent conversation about types of threads, this thread is already a streamer, totally

I'd like to discourage further defending the movies shittalked in this thread. I'd like this to be a safe place for people to shittalk movies so if you like the movie so much go talk about it in a thread that isn't this one

Hmm I can't compare Barb & Star to TRUE trash camp absurdity like Tammy and the T Rex, you're right. But as mainstream romps go, it had more wonky cogs in it than most studios allow.

I'm sorry but per the terms of this thread I cannot allow that positive perspective to pass. it doesn't have more wonky cogs than most studios allow it has the exact cogs you expect from a studio. it disappoints you how you expect to be disappointed and fails you how you expect to be failed. the overall concept isn't clever it's clever-like and it's not actually a funny movie it's something-like a funny movie. I genuinely think it's a discredit to the respectability of Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo to say that this is an accomplishment for them. I can't wait to experience the lesson they learn from this

I gave up 6 episodes into KEVIN CAN FUCK HIMSELF.   The premise just couldn't sustain itself.

"About Endlessness"

We can close this thread now.  I don't think it's possible to find a bigger waste of time.
