PTA mentioned how important the blue suit was to the MGM musical, well I dont know if this commercial was filmed before or after PDL but notice the suits...

That was pretty funny. I'll never see another blue suit without thinking of Barry Egan ever again.

my theory about barry's blue suit:

If youve read the script, you'll see that there are a few deleted scenes where barry wakes up wearing strange clothes, at night he sleepwalks and puts on wierd shit and wakes up like, 'what the fuck?'

im thinking this has something to do with it, like maybe barry's trying to break this habit by wearing the same suit every day, that mentally he will have less impulse to change clothes.

einstein wore the same suit every day...

I like to think of the blue suit as an acknowledgment of the fact that we're watching a movie, and Egan is a character in the movie. You know, kind of "I'm not really sure why I'm wearing this suit, but it's just my costume so I kind of have to wear it..." That's the vibe I get from a lot of the film, and I love it. Like the moment when Barry and Lena are leaving the restaraunt (for what reason, Lena conveniently doesn't ask) and the beautiful, romantic score starts subtly under the scene and we're thinking "okay, this is romantic music underscoring the scene, nothing more", then it just builds and builds into this ridiculously over-the-top, punch-drunk love melody that means you can't ignore it, and you're not meant to because that's the point: it's a movie - this is movie love...
