Title: Maturity
Post by: kotte on January 03, 2004, 12:32:52 PM
Alot of emphasize is put maturity in ones work.

Is this actually important? And what defines maturity in writing and filmmaking?

Should we sacrifice entertainment to make place for maturity? Do we have to?

Of course we don't HAVE to. But maturity goes hand-in-hand with sophistication and I'd much rather have a film with smarter comedy than, say, Old School's comedy.

You think maturity goes hand in hand with sophistication?

I'm not sure about that...LOTR for example. A mature work but in my opinion not very sophisticated. I don't mean that in a bad way.

Another example: The Big Lebowski. Mature? Yes. Sophisticated? Nope.

I don't know.  I just saw the last hour-ish of Ghost World, and a lot of it was fairly sophisticated.  Not to mention, the movie gets so much better with repeated viewings.  (It helps that I'm madly in love with both Thora Birch and Scarlett Johansson.)
