Post by: underdog on May 06, 2003, 02:47:47 AM
ya, i saw this movie on sunday ,it was good, the part i like is when they gave nightcrawler a very good part. but i did not like how they kill offf lady deathstrike.. like in the comic she had a big point in wolvernie life (she was wolvernie's X girlfriend in the comic and Tv show) and in x3 it going really nice to see phoenix.. but also why did they make all the x-men american? like in the comics, Pyro is british, storm is  african and Rogue has a southern  american voice..all american ..expert  nightcrawler.. anyway it a good movie, i like to be a extra in  x3, if it going to be film in BC like x2.... peace

BTW: the girl who play "shadow cat" (the girl who "ghost" into her bed) ya, i know her,

The Nightcrawler scene was amazing. This film made me notice something recuring in Bryan Singer's films. He's not much for pauses, awkward or otherwise. It's nothing terrible, but I just felt that there wasn't enough time between lines and scenes sometimes. Some of the development is a bit too fast. At first I thought it was cause Prof. X is a telepath and he just answers quickly cause he knows what people are going to say before they say it, but I checked out X-Men 1 and The Usual Suspects and its the same thing. Guess its Singer's style. I very much enjoyed the film, though.

And I'm happy they left it way open for a trilogy. X3!!!

That would be cool, but hard to show. It'd be easy for them to look geeky. But I doubt that, since the sentinels were supposed to be built by Gyrich and Trask, and now they're both dead.

From Dark Horizons:

Mystique's big hacking scene into Deathstrike's computer has a whole bunch of other character references it seems to not only the X-Men but other Marvel franchises. Yesterday we went through the list of names she pulled up on the screen during the movie whilst trying to find Magneto's location. Keen observer 'Will' managed to find more references though on the other screen where she brings up the 'Cerebro' file - "Listed there are files for Project: Wideawake which is the Sentinel Program, a file on Omega Red - the Soviet's answer to Weapon X/Wolverine, the Muir Island mutant research facillity home of Proteus and his mother Moira, and lastly there is a file on Franklin Richards the son of Reed and Sue Richards of "The Fantastic Four" (which is also set up at Fox) who is acknowleged as one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel Universe". Well, there's something to freeze frame when the DVD release hits.

Public Access?  Yeah... it's really shitty.  I mean, it's pretty fucking lame.  Maybe it's because he didn't have the resources or because the script was shite, but it's definatly not something I would purchase.

I really liked 'X2'. Dynamite sequel. Through all the ensemble cast of characters, Wolverine is still my favourite. He truly kicks ass in this one just as he did in the first (and we are treated to a lot more berserker rage, too). The newies are also great, Pyro reminded me of Sam Rockwell for some reason, Deathstrike was HOT, Nightcrawler ended up being loveable. As for the shock ending, I think it was pulled off really well-

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!

-actually I wont say it, but when Logan broke down crying, the scene worked brilliantly.

You know there's gonna be an 'X3' (can you really imagine there not being one?).

I thought it was a pretty good movie too, but...

...did anyone else crack up when Cyclops was talking to Jean Grey via Professor X for the last time?  That kind of ruined the dramatic "ending."

Yeah, that scene was a bit too joke-worthy, but after the 'goodbyes' it was fine (because seeing tough-nut Logan break down is a sight to behold)

The first time I watched it it really didn't bother me, but on last night's viewing... my bad was that some bad acting. I think it's Marsden's lip quiver that really makes it bad. He looks like Elvis when trying to deliver his "sensitive" lines.

Saw this one tonight. I hadn't actually planned on seeing it because there are a lot of other things out now that I want to check out, but a friend dragged me along and I'm glad he did.

One of the few times the sequel was even better than the original.

Let's hope Matrix II is the same and can one-up the original.

I kept thinking how much Iceman looked like the kid in "Welcome to the Dollhouse". I kept expecting him to look at Anna Paquin and say "After school today at 3:00, I'm going to rape you".

And the TV watching kid who never slept. I would have sworn that he was in Happiness. I can see him sitting there flicking channels with his eyes, and then nonchalantly telling Logan, "I came."

I guess I was in a total Solondz state of mind tonight.

Post by: Recce on May 11, 2003, 12:11:06 AM
Well, since you asked about the phoenix, here's everything I can remember. In the original comics, it was something along the lines of this: The X-Men were on their way back from a mission in space. Their shuttle had been damaged and they were attempting to make a crash landing. Jean Grey, in order to save the rest of the team, sealed them all in a chamber of some kind that could survive the heat from re-entry, and went off to pilot the shuttle, She was expected to die, so she had to seal the x-men in against their objections, so they kinda kept that aspect of it in X2. At the moment before death, the Phoenix force, a cosmic being charged to protect the M'Krann(not sure about the spelling) chrystal, approached her and made her an offer: she'd save the life of the x-men and, in return, the phoenix would inhabit her body in order to save the M'Krann chrystal from a bad guy. Jean agreed. So, when the shuttle landed, the x-men thought Jean had died. Later on, she came back wielding an impressive array of powers previously unavailable to Jean. I think she called herself Madelyn Prior. The X-men assumed Jean had been resurrected as the phoenix. Madellyn Prior and Scott Summers got married and had a kid. Later on, Madelyn Prior was corrupted by master mind, a mutant with the ability to cast illusions on his victims(i think that was jason in the movie). The phoenix turned evil and became the dark phoenix. So, now, evil and with cosmic powers, she destroyed a star system, killing billions. Finally, an interstellar empire(the Shi'ar empire) stepped in and killed the phoenix. So, now everyone was sad cause they taught Jean was dead again. But, a little while later, Jean Grey(not madelyn prior) came back. Apparently, the phoeninx had simply copied Jean, body and soul, and stored the real jean in stasis or something. So, now, everyones happy.

Now, in the movie, they kind of made it so that the Phoenix was sort of a development of Jean's powers. In the more recent X-Men comics, they started this thing about secondary mutations, wherein mutants develop new powers and stuff(probly just so stuff doesn't get too old). I kinda think the way they did it in the movie was sort of hinting at that and saying that Jean had developped a secondary mutation, but I'm probly jsut reading too much into it.
I think that's everything.
***semi-spoiler***
P.S. Yeah, the whole Jean talking through Prof. X kinda threw me off. There were several parts that I kinda saw as having a homosexual undertone, too(just my imagination, but it kinda throws you out of the story). Like the part were mystique is coming onto Wolverine and asking him what he wants and changing into all the women in the X-men in a sexually provocative manner, then she turns into Stryker. That kinda threw me off. I was thinking: "What? Wolverines a repressed homosexual".

Do we really need to state spoilers anymore? If so, SPOILERS:

I got the feeling that's exactly what they were trying to say--that Jean's manifestation of the Phoenix powers were simply her mutant powers mutating again. That's why the final VO promoted the "every few hundred of millenia evolution takes a giant leap forward" thing. Coupling that with Xavier's talk of Jean's "reservations" throughout her life and all, I think they're going to build up her powers not as a cosmic entity (therefore forgoing all the My'kran Crystal/Shi'ar Empire/Madelyn Prior stuff) but as a natural progression and skipping right to the 'Dark Phoenix' part of it.

I'll be interested on how they're working that in without the influence of Mastermind (or Jason in X2--as he would have died in the flood). I hope it's not a lame amnesia angle and the Brotherhood picks her up.

What gave you that idea? Everything I ever read seems to mean they are always solid, they just retract up into his forearm. And the distance from your wrist to your elbow is pretty long, about the length of his claws. Don't they even show an x-ray in the original movie with his claw retracted and them being in his forearm?

X2 HAWAII GAG REEL/BLOOPERS DESCRIPTION!!

Superhero Hype! has a report from Hawaii with the exact details on the gag reel that was shown during the X2 Q&A. Will we see any of this on the DVD? Details below:

They were GREAT and Shawn Ashmore and Bryan were the nicest of nice dudes. Got a chance to talk to the bunch for a little while afterward. As far as the golden question of X3, the 2 writers said "hey, we're on vacation dude... " but said yeah-that's a no-brainer. As for Bryan, it's one of those things that, you spend so long on making this movie-deal with all the stress of it and it's finally finished. The last thing you want to even think about is doing that all over again. After some time to refresh yourself, breathe and chill out for a while--at that point, it would be much easier to say yeah. Obviously, he put much into the series and wanted to be involved in it's continuing growth.

(Since the other poster didn't post the details of the reel, here are the details) of Bryan Singer's Xtra special X2 gag reel! I'm PRAYING this thing makes the DVD... but due to language and "play acting," I highly doubt they could as much of it is "R" rated fun. Here's a rundown in no particular order:

1. film crew playing with Nightcrawler's tail in a disturbing fashion

2. Mystique and Magneto (during the campfire scene) very sexually dining on a hotdog, one on each end... (yes, they were blowing a hotdog from both ends)

3. the scene with Hugh's sister and the wall of ice during the X-Mansion attack scene... it's SO scary how much she looks like him! she's doing the scene with angst, and the real Wolvie comes up behind her and says, "let it go, you have to let it go" (refering to her Wolvie rage)

4. a great collage of each cast member yelling "FUCK!!!"

5. Brian Cox's scene with Senator Kelly (the whole black ops while you were sucking on your momma's ***).. instead, he improv's it says something to the affect of "i was running black ops while you were busy sitting your mommas face" (and continued to demean Kelly, with other lewd comments)... the entire cast couldn't stop laughing.

6. Brian Cox messing up his lines in the white house as he's walking with Kelly Hu, and first he said "shit!" does the scene again and says "shit! I can't believe I said that!" then finally screws up again and says "ah fuck!" (like shit wasn't bad enough)

7. Mystique spanking the guard while in the toliet stall with a very long, pink, phallic thing (and enjoying it!)

8. Rogue, Bobby and Pyro running in the mansion during the invasion just to find a huge birthday cake which suprised the hell oughta them.

9. Wolverine doing his gay broadway walk into Cerebro saying (in a sing-song fashion), "Prooooofessoooor, I'm home!" and Patrick Stewart just playing right along like a couple of gay guys!

10. Wolverine in the tent, as Mystique's lying on him-he pulls a condom out during the scene... AND while each gal is lying ontop of him during the morph/Mystique scene, he finally grab Anna's face and plants a big wet one on her and looks at the camera and doing his best Austin Powers "yeah baby!"

11. During the scene where Stryker shows the President photos of the X Mansion, they changed the photos to Ian and Patrick acting like a couple of drag queens!

12. More swearing, and lots of it.

13. Bloopers with Wovlie and Stryker as he's pinned to the helicopter.

14. Everyone dancing in a little jig like fashion (even Cyclops)

15. In response to Storm saying something in the X-Jet, Jean answers by saying "storm are you smoking crack" while Halle adds another "fuck" to the ongoing tally due to the fact the scene was ruined thanks to the crack comment ;)

16. During Stryker's scene in the plastic prison, he sat on the plastic table to interrogate Magneto, but about 2/3 times he kept slipping off and kept bitching that it wasn't sturdy--each time, Ian looks directly into the camera and mouths "amateur" about Stryker's failure :)

17. Wheelchair derby fun with Singer and Stewart in the mansion

18. the scene where Logan sticks the guys foot and then claws him for good, he did the whole scene with a couple of those 99 cent XRAY eys

19. During the pivotal White House scene at the end, where everyone is looking all buff and serious while addressing the president (the side shot of everyone)... where most of the room is black... the Oval office door opens... all the X-Men start turning to look who the hell opened the door... and it's none other then JEAN GREY! she says "excuse me" until she stands next to Scott and tells the president, "sorry I'm late, hi, I'm Jean Grey." Logan then tells her he saved her a spot next to him and she says, if he didn't mind she wants to be next to her fiance.

20. Shot of the Logan in the Blackbird practicing Beserker Rage and yelling "FUUCK" and then making the slicing claw sounds himself.

21. During the scene where Jean telepathically pushes Mags and Mystique out of the way to avoid the optic blast-poor Ian actually acted too well and ended up talking out the camera guy sitting on the floor. Based on the sounds that followed-it was obvious someone got hurt :)

22. During the scene where Bobby cools Logan's soda... he starts slowly licking the rim of the bottle, gazing at Logan. Logan starts rubbing the top of the bottle with his pinky!

Next, during the scene Logan is in bed (where he has the adamantium/weapon x flashbacks), he starts moaning Bobby's name and looking very excited!

The best thing about the reel, beside all the funny crude moments... it really proved these guys/girls are family and had an incredible time together.
