"In Serbia a lot of people hate me because they want to westernise, not understanding that the western world is bipolar, with very good things and very bad things. Since they don't have experience of the west, they even believe that western shit is pie."

Clash

Quote from: AlguienEstolamiPantalonessee the clash had better songs, but they fucked it all up for me by dragging in stupid politics, which lead the way for shit like ian mckaye and his stupid fucking rules

What rules?  Ian Mackaye sang a song called Straight Edge where he sang about his lifestyle choices.  He never pushed anything on anybody.  And the Clash's politics leading to Minor Threat's political content?  That connection is incidental at best...

aw
THIS IS NOT AN EXIT

The Sex Pistols were awfully political, too, in their own way, don't you think?

"God Save the Queen"?

"Anarchy in the UK"?

In fact, a good deal of their notoreity came about because they were brave enough to openly mock the Royal Family.

Here's where I stand, though:  The Clash were the better songwriters and musicians, but The Sex Pistols were far more important and influential.

"Pretty Vacant" is such a great song.

AlguienEstolamiPantalones

do you think the pistols gave a shit about politics, they were just being brats shooting snot at the queen, it would be like writting a song called

" ohh hillary be my lewinsky, and unlike bill i wont leave a trace, cause i will shot it down your throat and in your face, no blue dress to leave a mess you will be buck nekid on the floore just like the rest"

i just fucking wrote that , wow i am great

ok some whaat dated, but i like george bush so fuck you, i wont diss him

would you catch the pistols singing about the war in Nicaraggwa ???????

dude youve always been wrong about music mesh give up

pretty vacent is the theme song to your fucking head

I don't see how we can compare these two bands seeing as how they're both on different levels in the landscape of punk - however I must say that Joe Strummer certainly put a lot more thought and emotion into his work, letting the listening public in on his views of the politcal climate at the time, whereas the Pistols simply wanked off a bunch of power chords to give us 2 minute bursts of chaotic noise. And anyways, isn't anarchy, a main principle of the Pistols, a complete lack of order and government? So calling the Sex Pistols politically inclined is pretty backwards . . . and how influential were they anyway? Any mall punk poser will mention the Pistols, but they've never sat down and listened to "Never Mind the Bollocks . . ."

Sid is just a dead icon, revered by Hot Topic shoppers and 5th Avenue fashionistas as a "symbol of rebellion," his snarl splashed across baby t's and keychains . . . Johnny's a pissed-up recluse in L.A., schmoozing with Billy-fucking-Idol and various no-names, planning the next fucking Pistols reunion tour . . .

The true Sex Pistols legacy has burbled its last  little breath as it  succumbs to antiquity and high-gloss marketing for a greedy, trend-hungry public who ignore the real philosophy of punk and instead buy scads of Simple Plan CDs . . .

The Clash, however, still maintain a high place in the Pantheon of Punk Legends. They'll always be known as the band with a voice and a message. They could convey their feelings far more effectively than any band can today and they still kicked ass doing it. Even to this day, when I hear any one of their albums rumble and grind out of my headphones, I still get chills. Even though Strummer himself is becoming another icon after his unfortunate death, his glare remains one of strong-held convictions and the essence of punk.

Clash, definitely. . . I don't give a fuck about what anyone else thinks about it.

read the thread posts first then re read what you wrote ok, its a fair comparrison

the movmenet was strong they were very different but strong

who do you prefere is the question, i said the clash had the tunes, but i hates their politics

the pistols had no tunes but i loved their attitudes

and i think if punk went the way of the pistols it would of not died or went underground, it would of alterted the ,mainstream and subverted the mass's and changed the 80's as we know it

punk died because it took itself to be too self important, and being on a indie label like dischord or kill rock stars, is just as well as having no career

we can disagre, but my theroy is when it comes to things like punk why shun the mainstream, when you can make the mainstream your bitch

look at eminem he gets paid MILLLIONS to say whatever he has on his mind and they give him a fucking Oscar, AND HE DOESNT SHOW UP TO PICK IT UP

one might say well he didnnt because he thought he would lose, well turning down the chance to sing at the oscars was preetty punk rock on his part

he says and does what he wants and he took a nation of teenagers to follow him much like madonna did in 1984

eminem is bigger then kurt cobian spin and other fag rags wont admit it, but its true

and he is what punk should of been about taking the mainstreama nd subverting it and destroying it and re making it in your own fashion

isnt that why the original punks worshiped jerry lee lewis and chuck berry because they re invneted music and did it in their own terms

and eminem is our generations jerry lee lewis

Cecil

i hate these what is punk what is not, what is a punk attitude what isnt debates. the very nature of it "isnt punk" at all

Sleuth

And that's why Cecil is punk
