Hey Xixax -
I made a card game for movie nerds! Well, technically I made a Kickstarter for a card game for movie nerds (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/modage/cinephile-a-card-game), so with your help, I will get to make this card game.

I'm really excited about it so would love your support, feedback, questions, etc. Thanks!

Dude!!!
Very cool, and I dig the teaser. My friends and I play a variant of 20 questions with different film categories, but this gives the Uno Remix variant which will be fun to try out. I'll sit on the idea and see if I can come up with input on more modes. The focused card types are good, too, keeps the base game built around broad cinephilia and homemade rule sets/variants.
I would totally buy this / invest. Alas, I'm in the UK and I see it's US only.
Thanks guys!
Still considering an international shipping option. But initially nixed it just because it was so crazy expensive I didn't want people to feel like they were getting ripped off paying $15 to ship a $20 game... But I have gotten some interest so I may figure something out and will let you know.

Doing a PTA & Wes expansion pack (because of course I am).
Spread the word. (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/modage/cinephile-a-card-game)
I'm officially your 263rd backer! Very excited.
Thanks! Also: I'm working on an international shipping option now. So far the best I can find is just like $15 USPS but if someone knows of a better (cheaper) way to get tiny packages shipped out of the U.S, let me know.
Got mine today :yabbse-grin:
Mine too! So cool!
I was starting to feel left out, but then I got home and mine had arrived as well. So now we can unite in making everyone else who doesn't have a copy feel left out.

What about a bonus Lindsay inclusion?
Awesome! Thanks guys. Official release date is August 27th, but Kickstarter backers get it 3 months early so plz share and play with other film nerds.
And let me know what you think! I worked on this every day for the last 15 months (and counting) so it's really crazy and surreal to have it out there finally.

on pay day then, hmm hmm...
there's a Lowery quote on the website:
QuoteNew career goal: Being on one of these cards.
:yabbse-grin:
It's been more grueling waiting for this game to drop so I can get decks than it has been waiting on any movie release all year.
If you had put money into the Kickstarter, as I did, you would have your copy of the game already, as I do, and if you're like me, you would not have had an opportunity to play it yet because all your real-life friends don't even know who Ellen Burstyn is, much less how to connect her to Ben Stiller in six movies or fewer.
For the record, Ellen Burstyn was in How To Make An American Quilt with Winona Ryder who was in Reality Bites with Ben Stiller.

I know but I was very broke then and could hardly afford anything except emotional support ;_;
It's true! My game came out this week officially and is in stores and everything. (For everybody not near a really cool indie bookstore, you can order it from cinephilegame.com (https://www.cinephilegame.com/))
It's been a really crazy year and a half working on this thing so it's exciting to finally see it out there in the world. If anybody does get one, would love to hear your thoughts!
FYI, I heard Cinephile mentioned on Slashfilm Daily, a podcast I listen to pretty much every weekday. Ben Pearson (https://twitter.com/benpears?lang=en) on the podcast highly recommended it.
My only two complaints are that the card back design is too busy and that I can't convince any of my friends to play it.

Hey modage! Did you send a deck to PTA? Weren't you in touch with him via Cigs And Red Vines back in the day?

Oh nice! I missed this, thanks for the heads up. Will listen now.

Haha. The card design I did during the Kickstarter phase and always thought I'd go back and revisit it (and suggested to the design team at Clarkson Potter I was open to playing around with it) but they left it alone and that was that.
Not being able to convince your friends IRL to play is definitely not an uncommon occurrence.

Whoa. My favorite podcast is going to do a charity stream playing Cinephile...

They did and it was fun! How was it as a viewer?

It was great! I didn't know you were going to be on the stream, so that was very cool.
Ice Pirates blew my mind. I should have expected Stuart's knowledge of obscure 80s movies would come into play.
i saw this for sale in an Auckland bookstore. there it was across the globe

We have a really good lineup (https://thefilmstage.com/the-film-stage-launches-cinephile-game-nights-in-support-of-covid-19-relief-funds/) coming up including the aforementioned Xixax reunion!
A Xixax reunion featuring #thetwofriends and Alex Ross Perry my worlds are blissfully colliding...

Oh and if you do have Cinephile (or were thinking about it) now would be a good time to mention the new expansion pack LA Stories which features Boogie Nights and Inherent Vice so you can (almost) complete your PTA collection. (Someday, Phantom Thread... someday.) Less than 100 copies left in the advance release out in July. https://www.cinephilegame.com/shop
Just ordered mine, plus the Coppola pin :)
the pure business is admirable. it's growing right in front of us. you're, what's it called, succeeding. but outside of that we know where your heart is, and how your heart relates to the business, so you're adult-world manifesting and that's, you know as a kid it maybe would have confused me but as an adult i think it's a beautiful representation of living the dream
i said it because i think it's a good idea when i want to say a nice thing. i watched the beach bum recently and i liked a couple things including he called himself a reverse paranoiac, quite certain the world is conspiring to make him happy. it's better to say nice things that's obvious
Haha, thanks guys. It has been an immense amount of obsessive work for two years and counting but I'm very proud of it for the reasons you mention which is why it feels like it's been worth it.
Our next project which we've been working on almost as long, (I came up with this literally the week after I came up with Cinephile: A Card Game) hopefully will be out by end of the year and I'm reaaaallly excited about too. If anyone has young kids (or knows anybody with young kids) spread the word!

Much more info soon but yes, of course A is for Anderson (Paul Thomas) :yabbse-grin:
Just watched the Cinephile Live with Slashfilm. It was predictably fun and charming. I've been listening to Slashfilm Daily for a long time, and Chris & H.T. are definitely the best part of that podcast.

Thanks Jeremy! I didn't know those guys beforehand but they were really great. We have some good stuff coming up this month (https://thefilmstage.com/the-film-stage-launches-cinephile-game-nights-in-support-of-covid-19-relief-funds/) too.
Sneak peek for PTA's 50th.

I'm confused... Who's the dude in the white shirt with no scarf?
Took a trip to Gordita Beach.
