I saw New York, New York for the first time in a long time, and I really liked it a lot. The conflict between old fashion filmmaking vs. a Cassavetes-like approach to acting made it great, and Scorsese also excelled in the visuals, taking us back to the glorious days of the MGM escapist musicals - but with a not very happy ending. It may not be perfect, and in some scenes, DeNiro goes excessively wild, but it worked really well for me and it was a lot of fun. The big "Happy Endings" musical number near the end was glorious, and so was Minnelli's "New York, New York" performance. Classic!
