It should be a netflix genre... something like big lebowski or, say, anything wes anderson... not demanding, not cerebral, nothing sentimental or genocidal... also, nothing blatantly idiotic like 2fast2furious... something exactly opposite of david lynch yet not so opposite it makes me even more retarded and i forget english entirely... i tried watching porn repetitively but...

i like McKay/Apatow movies for hangovers. They're funny but not idiotic (not on the level of 2fast2furious) and you can drift while watching them, not cut at dizzying speed and they're not really too loud

I also stream really bad old tv shows from netflix when i don't feel like getting out of bed... MacGyver, Quantum Leap, Night Rider, etc.

Futurama for the win, though.

Obviously what you are doing right now is called (in my upcoming book of psychology at least) validation. I think it's a normal thing to do. People will reply, say anything, and then you're gonna do what you were subconsciently thinking of doing all along.

The Lone Rangers always cure my hangover.
Falling in love is the greatest joy in life. Followed closely by sneaking into a gated community late at night and firing a gun into the air.

Good thread. Apatow fits the bill perfectly actually.

Sleepless

Wonder Boys and Harold And Maude have always served me well for a hangover.
He held on. The dolphin and all the rest of its pod turned and swam out to sea, and still he held on. This is it, he thought. Then he remembered that they were air-breathers too. It was going to be all right.

If the hangover is mild enough to allow me to make it to the cinema, I find that I love watching big, emotional movies on the big screen in this state. It allows me to switch off my analytical mind a little and to indulge more freely in something that will probably not be great, but which I really want to give the chance to move me and indoctrinate me into its way of thinking and feeling. Avatar was a good recent example of this. King Kong was another memorable one which had a hungover-me shedding quiet, manly tears.

That's like self-exploitation by consent or something :)... kind of like if you drank wine in church before the prayer in hopes of seeing god (i don't really know if people do that...) i actually hate that feeling of total clueless surrender... i find myself liking a lot of weird shit when i do that... :)

Nah, it's not clueless - it's a conscious decision, and it's just a way of opening myself up to a valid experience that I would probably be able to have to a slightly lesser extent under normal circumstances, but which I occasionally want to indulge in a bit more fully. Succumbing to the emotional pull of sincerely melodramatic popular cinema is something that I think no fan of film should deny themselves all of the time.

Liking weird shit, or liking shit for weird reasons, is one of the unique pleasures that a hangover affords me. It's not like I'm immune to the joys of the avowedly sentimental in my regular film viewing, but I occasionally like investing EXCESSIVELY too. That kind of experience can make you realise the beauty of something that you might miss under other circumstances - like, for instance (to take one real-life example), appreciating the profundity and intensity of Ferris Bueller's Day Off, rather than just its value as a feel-good comedy.

It's more like a conscious decision to a clueless surrender for me... I can definitely see the benefits of getting pulled into a shitty movie without realizing why you're in there, namely, it's intellectually effortless and sensationally rewarding. I just always feel like i've been fucked with after such experiences e.g., Transformers(hints of Army propaganda). I guess for me, by default, being hungover as fuck does not offer a valid viewing experience and i feel the need for something almost child-like and obvious... Having said that, im not at all immune to the joys of the sentiments it's just that i personally don't like that feeling...
