I just found an article from Premiere magazine from 1989, and it talks about the "best" movies of the 80's... here they are... do you you agree?
I voted for ET...but only cause it was the 1st movie I ever saw in the theater.
And...she...wore BLUE VELVET
I voted for Do the Right Thing...
I voted for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I used to love that show as a kid.
What if my choice isn't on the list?

Post it here... this is the actual list from that article back in 1989... I guess at the time they thought certain movies were better than others that we can TODAY see as being classics...
The Empire Strikes Back should be on there. So should Raiders, but I guess on Spielberg movie is enough.
Where the hell are FMJ and The Shining.
Yeah, the list needs Batman and Back to the Future as well... but I guess in November 1989 they didn't see these as classics like we do today... so what's the best (not necessarily your favorite) from the list?
Well seeing as BTTF isnt there I'll pick Do the Right Thing and E.T.
Since Raging Bull is more of a 70's flick in nature (even though that's what I voted), I would say it's a tie between Brazil and Ghostbusters, neither of which are on the list. Bah.
Blue Velvet it is.
I might also want to add Das Boot and Raising Arizona. Or even Zelig. Or Heathers.
With what's on the list...either E.T. or Do the Right Thing, probably.
fucking BRAZIL and the shining were the best
One word: Ran

I could easily be persuaded to agree with this, in addition to my two aforementioned choices...
My fav 80's movie (Talk Radio) isn't on there and since there's no 'OTHER' option I went with Raging Bull.

How come you've become so obsessed with this movie?
Well I can list so many great movies... some of the Rocky movies released in the 80's... Back to the Future... Ferris Bueller's Day Off... Cocktail... Risky Business...
I can go for hours...

The thing is, these movies would be considered similar to today's American Pie series or Scary Movie series... not necessarily good, but popular and classics in their own time...
How do you compare such an important, shattering film like "Shoah" to the others on this list? It's ranking apples and oranges.
I'm leaving Shoah out of the discussion and going with "Do The Right Thing"

Blue Velvet with Raging Bull in close second, as a matter of fact, RB probably should be my pick, but personally BV does it a little more than RB, or maybe it's just that I love Lynch so much.
Amadeus is also missing (IMO).
Raging Bull.
hannah and her sisters
It was down to Hannah or Blue Velvet for me... but I think Blue Velvet had more of an impact. Raging Bull, I love, but for some reason I had no problem putting the other two above it. Scorsese didn't make a Taxi Driver in the eighties...
IMO, two of the very best movies of all time did come from the 80s but aren't listed: Grave of the Fireflies and Ran.
Off that list, I'd prolly say Raging Bull. I just won't vote for it.
Speaking as a kid in the 80's I'd say back to the future , ET and all the Spielberg productions (I'd hate Blue Velvet at age 5)
ET
I'd go with BladeRunner, followed by Do the Right Thing and Raging Bull.
'Cock'tail followed by Local Hero.

Thank you. I vote FMJ.
I voted Platoon merely because it was extremely gut wrenching to watch...on a personal level though, it's a toss up between ET and Roger Rabbit b/c those were two instances of my early years as a filmgoer...plus, I still watch Rabbit when I can. There's just something so beautiful about that film...oh yeah, I know what it is: Jessica Rabbit.

ok, YOU blow!
I would've went for Sixteen candles or Ferris Buller... ^^;
I don't know about the best. One of my personal favorites that isn't on the list is Wall Street.
